I’m quite pleased that we’ve made it to another Yarn Along Wednesday and I feel like I have something to show for it!
After last week‘s set backs it’s been great to move on to the quick and easy body work of my Fisherman’s Pullover. There are mistakes aplenty but having something that actually resembles a sweater has gotten me excitedly thinking about the possibilities of more and more and more sweaters – perhaps one of these (yep, still drooling over it) for my little guy or this for my 6-year-old. You’ve seen me do this before, right? I love to dream about the new projects although I’m usually a little freaked out about starting them.
But before I get ahead of myself I have a couple of inches left before the bottom ribbing and then there are the sleeves – the next big challenge. Hopefully they will knit up as easily as they sound.
In this magical week of knitting triumph I’ve even found a little time for reading. Wonders never cease! I’ve been enjoying the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, a collection of twelve short stories. I’m not usually one for short stories but I am enjoying the grab-and-go appeal of a shorter read. The stories themselves are so great! I love the way they are written and I love the character of Sherlock Holmes. We’ve enjoyed the old-school Jeremy Bret version of Sherlock Holmes from the library and I’m realizing what a great job he did acting the part true to the original stories.
On the rather opposite end of the reading spectrum I’ve also gotten into Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Knitting Workshop. I love her witty, opinionated way of writing and her no-nonsense approach to knitting. I’m discovering more and more why so many knitters admire her writings. I had Knitting Without Tears out from the library a few weeks ago but didn’t get too far (more from time constraints than lack of interest) so I will have to check it out again.
I’m so glad I have these yarn along posts to keep me on track with knitting and reading – both things I adore but which can so easily be pushed aside. Visit Yarn Along at Small Things if you’d like to see what other knitters have been up to this week!
P.S. Thanks for the well-wishes over my injured thumb last week. It’s doing quite a bit better this week!
I’m also enjoying an EZ book, the Opinionated Knitter. I really need to get my hands on her other books, maybe this summer in preparation for winter. I think sweaters for the family will be in order. I try to get my books from Knit Picks so they bump me up to free shipping. : ) They also have 40% off book sales a few times a year.
Don’t sweat your sweater sleeves — they’ll seem so much easier than the body!

Thanks for the tip – I haven’t ordered from Knit Picks but I’ll have to watch for the sale!
I agree, having Yarn Along every week is what encourages me to make time for my books and needles too! Lovely color on that pullover btw!
You are making great strides on the sweater. I feel like mine is just slogging along! I enjoy EZ, but sometimes her “pithy” instructions leave me frustrated.
Looking great! Yes, sleeves are much easier than the body, once you get the stitches picked up – if that’s what your pattern calls for. You’ll be done before you know it!!
Cheers!
Your sweater looks really sweet. I’ll have to see if our local library has any EZ, I’ve heard too many good things to ignore, maybe one day I’ll graduate from beanies.
I think your sweater is looking great. I love EZ too. I wish she could just sit in my livingroom and sip tea, chit-chat and help me with my knitting!
Warmly,
Tracey
Sweater looks fantastic! Love the color. And who doesn’t love Sherlock Holmes?
wow-It is looking so great! You’ve made great progress! EZ is just the best. I reread her stuff all the time. Check out her videos. It is awesome to see her do things. So informative!
Yes, it looks very much like a sweater and quite lovely too.
That sweater is looking great! I love short stories, nothing like a quick little read for me!
How many books has EZ written?? It seems that I keep hearing of another and another! Your sweater is coming along wonderfully!!
What a nice sweater! It is really looking good! I have not read any EZ books. I keep hearing about her, though. I might need to add her to my reading list!
Your sweater is coming along quite nicely! I’d really like to read more EZ…my library has Knitting Without Tears, which I’ve read, but I’m not sure which one to get next.
the sweater is looking wonderful! I love the color. 🙂
Hey, thanks for the link to the raglan pullover, I’ve been on the look out for basically that exact pattern! I would love to make it for my kids- it’s so classic, and simple!
I know you can make tea leaves- it looks daunting but is amazingly simple.
The sweater looks wonderful! I love the blue.
The sweater IS looking wonderful. What a lovely shade of blue; perfect to bring out lovely features on its new owner… Elizabeth Zimmerman is wonderful (and intimidating for me). I have one of her DVDs and I get overwhelmed by the information. I bet if you really give her a try (unlike me), you could become a rather expert knitter fast…
What a beautiful shade of blue! I have the Fisherman’s Sweater on my project list, too. Nice work. Oh, and we loooove Jeremy Brett as Holmes here!
I haven’t read any EZ either, my library doesn’t have hardly any knitting books. Not a huge hobby down here in Key West! But my birthday is coming up soon and I have my fingers crossed for a bit of Zimmerman love arriving!
Oh your sweater is looking fabulous!!! So exciting that it is getting closer to being finished 🙂 I love dreaming about new projects but I’m holding my breath that the sleeves portion of mine goes smoothly and if it does then I’m definitley going to try another sweater 🙂 Love the little leaves cardi. It’s one of my faves 🙂 Now I feel the need to catch up after slacking off this week LOL.
