Happy Wednesday! I’m joining Ginny for another week of yarn along where we share what we’ve been knitting and reading over the week.
This has been a good week for me to complete a few little projects. My little guy’s sweater is finished (okay, except from the blocking which I am lazy about) and ready for birthday gifting next week. I also made him a little pair of these and finished this friend for him. Those last two were such quick little knits, I loved it!
I also finished up these fingerless mitts for a special person. They were so quick and easy I don’t know why it took me so long to knit the second one – it took me well under an hour with the chunky yarn. I’m sure I will be making more as quick gifts. The pattern is another one by Jane Richmond, the designer of raglan sweater above. I love the way her patterns are written (and, by the way, she has a 3 for 2 sale on until the end of April). They make sense to me which isn’t always the case with knitting patterns.
I knit up one of these monsters for my eldest last night as a little surprise and just need to finish the feet when she isn’t peeking. It took me no time at all to knit up his body so I’ll think I’ll throw together a couple more for a couple of the siblings along with the bunny I mentioned last week for Sarah.
My next bigger project (big by my standards anyway) is going to be a Pebble vest for little on the way. I’m hoping to cast it on this morning but can’t decide which wool to use. I think I’m going to chose a beautiful green wool (shown in the picture) my sister brought me on her last visit. It is so lovely!
For reading this week, I’ve still been enjoying The Dirty Life. I did receive a couple of warnings last week that the language towards the end of the book may be offensive to some so while I still recommend it as a great book, I’ll add that comment to my otherwise favourable review. We’ve also still been reading through bits of The Backyard Homestead but it is now overdue at the library so it will unfortunately be going back. It is such a wonderful reference – I’m sure it will find a permanent home with us some day soon.
Thanks for coming by! I think we’re going to be having a sick day here – a couple of coughs have appeared over night and we have lots of getting healthy to do before company arrives this weekend. I’m sad for the little people but just maybe I’ll squeeze in a few extra snuggles and knitting rows which I’ll never complain about!

P.S. Thanks so much for the learning to knit tips many of you offered last week! It is so wonderful to have this knitting community to draw on for help and advice!
It all looks so good! The little chick is especially nice.
Everything looks wonderful! I love those mitts!
Look at you go! very productive. I’m loving the dirty life!
That chick is just adorable! I wish I had more than a few days before Easter…I want to make one (or one of her little bunny nuggets!) for each of the kids. I wonder if I have time… xoxo
Look at all that knitting goodness. I love Jane Richmond, too.
You’ve got so many fun little things done this week! Bravo!
Wow you have knitted so many things this week, they all look great. I hope the coughs go away and do not spread. Take care.
Oh, I do hope your wee ones feel better soon. You accomplished quite a bit of knitting! I am so slow. I so want to read The Dirty Life! I need to make a dent in the stack I have here first!
My oh my you have been busy! Look at all that you have done!! Those monsters are soooo cute! And I think that lovely green wool will be perfect for that vest. It look very soft!
Amazing! all of it so beautiful. so many inspiring knitters out there. I am a wee beginner still. And I very much want to read that book…it’s on my list.
You are such a productive knitter! I love all of your hand-knits, but especially that green chickie–so cute 🙂
I just picked up The Dirty Life from the library today. I don’t know if I will get to it until next week, but it looks interesting to me, especially since I grew up in upstate New York. My grandfather was a dairy farmer in the North Country (the northern region of the state).
I hope those coughs and sniffles are nothing serious, and that everyone is feeling better soon 🙂
You ARE such a productive knitter. I have been meaning to make one of those little monsters for quite some time. Yours is ADORABLE. Rachel, I hope that one day I will meet you in person. I just have this feeling about you… Happy knitting and reading. See you tomorrow. xoxo
Hope the little ones get better very quickly and it doesn’t spread around. What a great knitting feat – I love the little chick and that colour is gorgeous.
Oh my, how busy you’ve been! Love it all…and that pebble vest-to-be will be lovely. I’ve knit many of them and love them so much.
xo Jules
Lots of lovely knitting. In my yarn along this week, I am knitting the Pebble Vest. It is one of many that I have knitted. I love it and never tire of it. I have made lots of different sizes and with various yarns. They have all worked out. Can’t wait to see your vest. Jacinta
i’ve been dying to knit a pebble vest but alas, no baby on the way and my baby will be 3 in july. might have to get fiddly with some knitting math though because i really, really want to knit that for one of my littles! i think yours will love fab in that gorgeous green!
Fantastic projects. I can’t wait to see them. I need to look up that book!
Such cute projects! Love all of them. I remember reading so many books on farming before we started living the life and just couldn’t get my hands on enough of them. There is a lot out to read now and that is a blessing! Hope you feel better soon. I posted my yarn along on my blog as well!
