Happy Wednesday! I’m joining Ginny for another week of yarn along where we share what we’ve been knitting and reading over the week.
Have I done any knitting this week? I know I have but I don’t feel like I have much to show for it. My previous weeks’ knitting frenzy seems to have calmed down a little – I think I’ve been feeling too tired to do anything in a frenzy by the time the littles are in bed.
I did knit up a couple more little balls and a bunny nugget as little Easter treats. Both are free patterns from Rebecca Danger. The balls were meant to be Monster Chunks but I ran out of time to add the feet at 1 am on Sunday morning. So balls they became. They are a total hit without the feet and I’ve since made another for little bro’s birthday this week because he’s been stealing everyone else’s. I stuffed them with felted sweater scraps wrapped in a little wool roving. I knew I was saving those scraps for a good reason. They give the balls a perfect weight – heavier than wool stuffing but light enough that we haven’t broken any pottery…yet, anyways. I think they would make a great set of juggling balls. The bunny is also a new beloved friend – I have orders to make a few more. Simon and Sarah have had so much fun playing with their bunny and birdie, I love it!
After all my talk about starting a pebble vest, I finally got into it. It’s kind of refreshing to be knitting on straight needles again. I’m using the Fisherman’s Wool that I had left over from this sweater. I decided the dreamy green wool my sister gifted me was a little too fine so I’m saving it for the perfect project.
I’m still reading The Dirty Life and enjoying it. I am amazed by this story. It is putting a lot of my homesteading dreams into perspective and confirming my suspicion that I probably couldn’t handle livestock very well. I’ve also picked up Independence Days from the library on Charity‘s suggestion. I haven’t cracked the cover yet but I’m looking forward to having a look through it this week.
And since I feel like all of this is rather repetitive of previous weeks I just have to show this next project I am dreaming of – the Owlie Sleep Sack. I am in love with this and must knit one up for new babe. Babies get cold in August right? I’m saying they do.
Happy Wednesday everyone! We’re getting ready for some birthday celebrating tomorrow – four children are very excited and the birthday boy has no idea what’s coming his way!
More yarn along posts here.
My son recently tore a library copy of Knitted Monsters by Rebecca Danger so I’ve got a few projects flagged that I want to try. Those bunny nuggets are adorable though. And oh! that sleep sack is adorable. Thanks for sharing the links 🙂
My son recently tore a library copy of Knitted Monsters by Rebecca Danger so… (I had to buy the book) now I’ve got a few projects flagged that I want to try. Those bunny nuggets are adorable though. And oh! that sleep sack is adorable. Thanks for sharing the links 🙂
First of all, I love your mug!
Second, hooray for fun knitting toys!
Of course a baby can get cold in August so you just knit way! I’m so glad you are enjoying “The Dirty Life”, I have had it on my wish list and can’t wait to read it.
The bunny nugget is so cute, as is that little birdie. Don’t you love seeing your littles play with something you’ve created? Such satisfaction. Oh, that sleep sack is so cute & babies definitely get cold in August.
I’m still knitting my pebble vest from last week. The sleep sack is so cute. The bunny nugget is pretty cute too. Jacinta
I love that Fisherman’s Wool – I crocheted up a bunch of soakers in it many months ago & love them. I was afraid the wool would be scratchy but once I washed & lanolized it, it was fine. I can’t wait to see how your pebble vest turns out.
I’ve also put The Dirty Life on my request list at the library. I am told I also wouldn’t be able to handle farm life – George grew up on a farm, you know, and is indulging my urban-homestead dreams but I think half-believes I’ll end up giving up when I see how much work it is! – and I think a memoir like that would be a fantastic read. Thanks for sharing it! xoxo
Oh sounds like an exciting party tomorrow! Have fun!! Love the wool you are using and that owlie sleepsack is wonderful!! Soooo cute!! Btw, did I miss something, are you having a new babe on the way??
I much prefer knitting on straight needles (if only I didn’t have to sew everything up afterwards). I’m with you re: homesteading…as much as I want a pasture full of wooly sheep, alpaca, chickens and such – who am I kidding? I hate poo. LOVE your mug – great shot today!
Oh my that sleep sack is something else! I’ve got the pattern for the owl sweater but haven’t gotten around to making it yet. I too am really loving the dirty life! I go back and forth with the homesteading dream! I think I could handle SOME livestock!
love that red mug! and the owl sleep sack – holy moly, you keep making me want to knit baby things and i have no babies to knit for! can’t wait to see what the big bday surprise is!
Yes do make that Owlie sleep sack! It is a pattern from a friend of mind and so sweet!
I made bunny nuggets for my kids too for Easter. they are fun.
That Owlie sleep sack is so stinking adorable!
I am liking that mug too 🙂 Happy birthday to your family members! I am going to look at the book “the Dirty Life” if and when I get to a bookstore! You have made it sound quite interesting.
Some knitting is still knitting! I need to read “the Dirty Life” and soon… it sounds so good!
The book your reading sounds interesting….I will look for it at our library.

that yarn is beautiful. have fun with the b-day!
Such sweet knitting! I just finished the knee socks I have been working on forever and posted about it today, here: http://hansenhootenanny.blogspot.com/2011/04/wild-and-wooly-wednesday.html
Not much reading or knitting going to happen. Just some sewing and farming :). Love reading your posts.
I love the sleep sac! I never see babies out and about in sacs anymore, I think we have carseat buckles to blame…
That “owlie sleepsack” is adorable! Love it! I’m reading _The Dirty Life_, too, and I am really enjoying it. The livestock I could handle, but I’m not that into canning and preserving–a necessity for sustainable life in northern climates. Maybe Independence Days will have some good tips that will make it more appealing to me. I’ll have to request it at the library soon.
We need to trade off, Susan! I love canning – I’ll can for you and you can deal with the chicken poop! Hope the book offers some inspiration.
AGH! I so love that sleep sack, I wish I had known about it back when Ezri was tiny! He was a summer baby too, but there were some chilly nights. Oh I hope you make it. 🙂
I’m in love the Owlie Sleep sack too! My nephew will be born in June in super hot Oklahoma, but I’m thinking the wee babe will get cold in the air conditioned house! So I’m sooo tempted to knit him one. I just wonder if my sister will use it. She’ll probably let him hang out in a onsie all day. lol She does not have the love of knitted things like I do. 😉 Enjoying reading your blog, even if I don’t get over to comment very often. ~Cori
Rachel- I LOVE THAT MUG!
Oh the owlie sleep sack is PERFECT! And of course an August baby needs one! Of course! Maybe in cotton?
Thanks for sharing the link to the designer. I LOVE her stuff – favorited her on ravelry. Maybe once I’m done my sweater, I’ll see what I can accomplish! Now to find out where you got that mug!
[…] from those pesky sleeves I do have the pattern and wool ready to begin the Owlie Sack I mentioned a while back. It’s my reward for (almost) getting the birthday sweaters […]
