Joining with Ginny’s yarn along to share what I’m knitting and reading this week.
I’ve been getting that summer feeling that usually has me drop the knitting needles for a time. I have so many projects I want to tackle (thanks to the suggestions so many of you offered last week) and so many requests from the little people that I’m hoping to stay motivated by taking my knitting outside for the wonderful weather we are (finally) having.
I’m just about finished the little hat I started for a friend’s soon to arrive little one – I’m knitting with Cascade 220. For that same little one I decided to try knitting one of these sweet elephants (here‘s a Ravelry link to the very sweetest one I can imagine). And just because I love knitting hats so much I also want to knit one of these hats on Sara‘s suggestion and I can’t resist this one or this one. So many aspirations but we’ll see how much I actually get made.
For reading I enjoyed the The Unusual Suspects over the weekend and although it is a children’s book I was surprised how gruesome it seemed at times. Not a book my little people are ready for but I found it entertaining. I’ve also been reading through Ecological Gardening. I’ve been learning more about soil, composting and mulching and love that the author presents the info from a Canadian/Northern gardening perspective so there are lots of tips that match our climate. We’ve also spent lots of time with The Garden Primer and are thumbing through The Canadian Edible Garden. I’m looking forward to implementing what I’m learning in our new garden.
The sunshine is calling through the window and I think I’ll sneak out with my knitting bag. I’m looking forward to browsing other yarn along posts in Ginny’s space!
Thanks for stopping by!
I [heart] Cascade, particularly that hue of green. I just knit a top down, roll neck from Pure and Simple for my daughter with it. Like you, I can not wait to knit in the sunshine. Today, I would have been sitting in the cold mud.
I love your greens- so beautiful for a new little one!
I know what you mean about putting down the needles for a season. I’m feeling the pull to the sewing machine soon…
I’m lovin’ the green yarns you are using. As for your book stash, sounds wonderful. I have finally finished my pebble vest, and have decided to give it away. Check it out if you are interested. Happy gardening days to you! Jacinta
I love that you are using green yarn and all your books are about gardening! A lovely spring theme! I just ordered a book about edible
plants in my area. I would love to have the ability to “live off the
land’ literally!
I love those greens, Rachel.I often turn to cascade 220 myself, it’s a great economical yarn!
<3
Don’t you love Cascade 220? I used it for a kid’s hoodie in Spring Cast On and it came out so nice ….
Oh, what a sweet little hat! I’ve never knit with Cascade 220 but I hear such nice things about it I think I should give it a try. xo
That hat is so sweet… good job!
You hat is so sweet…Good Job!!
The hat is just perfect! I really like Cascade 220 and have knit with it many times. Happy Wednesday!
I really love that green! I haven’t tried Cascade yarns yet…need to give some a whirl…I’m hoping to someday trek to the not-so-local yarn shop to see the nice yarns in person…I just got our garden dug out and finally planted this week…I’m hoping things grow…it isn’t the ideal spot for a garden, but I wanted one and decided to work with what I had…we have to start somewhere, right?
That is a great shade of green! Those hat patterns that you shared are stinkin’ cute. Thanks for the links.
That hat is adorable – love the greens. Hope you post a picture when it’s finished! ~Lisa
Oh, I love green! And that elephant – can’t wait to see yours 🙂
Do you have a favorite gardening book? I’m new to gardening, we have just built raised garden beds in our yard and I’m trying to plan my next steps…
don’t really know anything about soil, fertilizing, etc.
That green is very cute. I <3 the elephant! Can't wait to see him all knit up. 🙂
I love the hat. I also know what you mean about dropping the needles to be outside. Actually, I’m looking forward to the days when the gardens are growing (but not yet producing) and I can take knitting breaks outside in the shade…
Blessings, Debbie
I LOVE that green! Delightful!
The hat is lovely! The perfect colours for this time of year. I’ve requesting a copy of The Canadian Edible Garden at my library – it sounds great – thanks for the suggestion!
I l o v e the green!!! It looks so great!!
How did you like Cascade 220? I always wonder about that yarn… It sounds like you are doing all kinds of fun gardening reading. I have been doing some myself. I still have so much to learn though–I am especially lacking knowledge in the mulch area so if you have any tips, please share!
YAY! I LOVE hats too! I can’t wait to see them!!!
