We’ve had a beautiful weekend here at the Jay home.
With plenty of time outdoors.
Lots of sunshine and dirt under fingernails (hair, clothes and everywhere else).
This little chef was busy making dinner for daddy.
It always helps to have a sous-chef.
Dinner was a paté of mud with sauteed rose hips and a sprinkling of sidewalk chalk.
Little brother took care of dessert.
And at the close of this sunny day…
we cuddled up for bedtime stories on the picnic blanket.
This felt like Mother’s Day weekend all over again for me. My lovely family was so generous to wait in the car during errands while I “popped” into not only my favourite thrift store but also a yarn store (it took great restraint to stick to my promise to only grab the needles I was looking for). I enjoyed not one but two dates out with beautiful friends (one of which included my annual trip to my very favourite used book sale – my finds will be another post…). And the icing on the cake? A nap – by myself, with not a snack to prepare, no calls from the bathroom, no peacemaking duties required.
What joy is mine!
How’d you spend your weekend? Hope you found a pocket of time to soak up some joy yourself.
I admire your restraint at the yarn store. I went shopping for my sister and ended up with a skein for me!
Well, I think that is only fair…you need to try these things out before gifting them. 😉
I won’t say my hand didn’t touch any wool during my visit but it didn’t have time to linger.
Harriet the Spy! That was one of my favourites when I was younger! I had that exact same one, in fact. *sigh*
Love your weekend photos. We had quite a bit of rain here & it’s going to continue through the week. So I’m not sure whether your pictures make me hopeful (hey, the sun has to come out again eventually, right?) or jealous that you have such lovely weather! xo
sounds like a perfect weekend. and i know the joy of a husband and kids waiting in the car for a quick pop in to a fave store – i love that. i love not having to wrestle four kids in and out just so i can get that one thing. how much longer until your due date?
Sounds fabulous! Oh, I know about the dirt at the end of the day – I’ve just put my son to bed, and I’m yet again amazed at where it all gets to after some play time in the garden!
Have a lovely week..
Svenna
looks and sounds like a beautiful weekend! i love that picture of the kiddos playin in the dirt together!
sounds like a great weekend Rachel! Wonderful pics, can’t wait to see what you got at the book sale!
What a great weekend. I really missed my nap this past weekend.
Don’t worry, I’ll be drooling over your garden when mine is all
burned up from the horribly hot summers we have down here! You
know, my door is always open so pack the kiddos and head south!
The more the merrier.
You resisted in the yarn store! Wow! I have made so many of those trips where I “pop” in somewhere and the rest of the family waits patiently in the car (or not so patiently).
Please send some of that weather this way, the rain won’t stop here. Wish I could spend some time lounging in the yard with you guys.
you are truly calling out some of my true loves: used book stores, thrift stores, being outside with the kids. LOVE IT!
This weekend I was mostly sewing, because we have a little girl whose birthday is coming soon. Last weekend we went on a wonderful hike into the forest.
I still have my copy of Harriet the Spy from when I was little!
