I’m joining Ginny’s yarn along again today sharing two of my passions: knitting and reading.
I’ve been moving rather slower this past week with some extra pregnancy pains but unfortunately the extra rest has had me laying down – at not quite the right height for knitting or reading. Despite that I’ve been searching out chances to grab my knitting bag and current read for a few minutes. I’ve got quite the little station set up on the corner of the couch…knitting bags, a basket of skeins due for the yarn winder, my book, laptop and mason jar of red raspberry leaf iced tea.
I’m almost done the second arm on my elephant. He is looking quite sweet – I can’t wait to get those giant ears on! I’m hoping to get him finished off and in the mail before we leave for vacation next week. I’ve been slacking a bit and had abandoned him in favour of the current birthday sweater. The Wonder Years sweater, which thanks to Jen I’ve name Winnie Cooper, is well under way – I’m about to divide for the underarms. With the birthday only a few weeks away and a load of stockinette ahead I’m hoping I can get it finished in time. I suspect I’m going to need to spend a little time with a few teeny baby knits by way of relief from the same stitches.
Speaking of teeny baby knits, I whipped up a tiny baby hat over the weekend using some beautiful alpaca I received in a most thoughtful gift from Taryn. The alpaca was a dream to knit with and I love the delicate honeydew green. I have a teeny bit of the alpaca left which I’m hoping to pair with a creamy alpaca I have to make a pair of baby socks…I just have to get brave about converting a pattern to work for the bulky weight wool.
On the book front I’m still enjoying The Distant Hours – taking my sweet time and enjoying it rather more slowly than some of my last reads. I don’t think I enjoy it as much as I enjoyed The Forgotten Garden – it had a more magical feel than this current read – although there is plenty of book left to tweak my interest.
I’m looking to gather a few books to take along on vacation with us – anyone have any must read books to recommend? Keeping in mind that I’m a somewhat fragile pregnant lady so I need gentle reads…
I’m looking forward to seeing what else is on the go from other yarn alongers. If you’d like to take a peek, too, visit Ginny at Small Things.
Thanks for visiting!
gorgeous, I love the little gnomey hat:)
What a lovely trio of knits. How exciting to have projects finished and close to finished. Mine are having a bad month! 🙂
Blessings, Debbie
Cant wait to see your elephant;)
I do love the wee baby hat you did! Hope you are able to get the rest you need and are not pushing too hard. Take care of yourself Rachel and enjoy the day.
Oh, I hope those pains subside for you…
That little hat is just adorable:)
Warm wishes, Tonya
Such cute knits! Love that elephant! Adorable!
I hope you start feeling better soon! I don’t know if you like historical fiction, but Outlander by Diana Gabaldon is so great. It is a big book and the first in a series and just enjoyable.

Sweet, sweet things. Seeing a new limb on your elephant every week makes it rather more exciting! I love your little corner station by the sofa, sounds fabulous.
I hope you’ll have a wonderful and pain-free holiday!
that alpaca looks so yummy! I can’t wait to meet this new addition of yours!
Your knitting is beautiful. It looks like you have knitted up quite a lot of treasures! Hope your pains go away soon!
I absolutely love the name you gave that sweater. I remember Winnie Cooper being very sweet and kind. Love that elephant, too.
Have a great vacation!
Alpaca is my favourite yarn. So soft and easy to knit up.
The baby hat is so pretty.
The elephant is cute as a button and I would just love a Winnie Cooper sweater 🙂
I used to love the wonder years!
The elephant is so close! And the “Winnie Cooper” is great!
That is the sweetest little baby hat! I hope you begin to feel better soon. Pregnancy pains/discomfort are never fun.
Lovely knits! I can’t wait to see the finished elephant 🙂 I hope this is a better week for you!
Lovely elephant! I hope your “pains” go away soon and you feel well rested!
ohhhh the elephant is so sweet! I’m gonna work up to it! I am!!!
Oh, I love all your projects. And that little green hat is something special. Have a great vacation!
The elephant looks great! Blessings on the baby pains… feel better soon!
loving the peek of that green elephant! and glad to know you’re resting through those baby pains. have you read the outlander series? the series by lauren willig – think it starts with the secret history of the pink carnation?
“The Help”…..its a great read! The next To Kill a Mockingbird~ 🙂
Have you read “The Dirty Life” yet? I got it at the Library, much to my surprise.
Read “Heaven is for Real” in no time at all.
hmmmm what else have I read??
I like Joan Medlicott for easy reading…also Elizabeth Berg. Liked “Still Life with Chickens”, but gave it to a friend and she didn’t like it at all!
Love how everything is coming along! The softness of that yarn just jumps out of the picture!!! I do hope you will feel better soon and resting much :). I’m thinking about you!! And as far as books go, I was going to recommend Woman in White, but not right now, too many ups and downs and heart palpitations. The Alchemist and The Prophet are quick inspiring reads, but you probably have already read them :).
I knew that yarn was meant to go to you! What a beautiful hat you made with it!
Wishing you lots of regenerating rest!
Love to you.
The elephant is looking sweet…!
Your baby hat is adorable! Truly so cute! Have you ever read any Wally Lamb or Barbara Kingsolver? The Poisonwood Bible is one of my all-time favorite books.
the winnie cooper! sweet name and adorable sweater.
