I am soaking up vacation time and getting my fill of knitting and reading. As the littles circle grandma and grandpa like moths to a flame, I’ve been blessed with some much needed rest for me and the little jumping bean we are so excited to meet.
My Winnie Cooper is coming along so nicely. I’m getting quite excited that I may actually have it completed in time for next week’s birthday. I have nearly finished the first sleeve and only have the remaining sleeve and button band to get through. Of course I realized I forgot to bring (or even think about) buttons but my mother-in-law has kindly offered me a root through her stash so I’ll see what I can find there.
I keep meaning to start the gauge for my yellow girl’s tiny tea leaves but have been reluctant to put down the Winnie Cooper in case I get too distracted. Maybe today is the day. I’ve also been avoiding the gauge swatch and tweaking for my summer cardigan which I’m hoping to knit as part of this KAL over at luvinthemommyhood. I was so happy to win a pattern giveaway over there for three of Hannah Fettig‘s patterns that now I’m hesitating over my original pattern choice. Oh the joy of knitting dreams!
I finally finished reading The Distant Hours and quite enjoyed it. As I’ve said before (and I maintain now that I finished it), I wouldn’t recommend it as highly as the first Kate Morton novel I read, The Forgotten Garden. It was still a good read, though, with some gentle suspense and nothing too stressful – just the right kind of vacation novel for me. Although some might find it a bit slow moving at times I enjoy the delayed gratification of a longer developed storyline.
Now I’m switching gears and hoping to start Simplicity Parenting. I’ve heard so much about it and while I am a terrible reader of non-fiction I’m hoping I can commit to it. We’ll see if I can stick to my word on that and not be pulled aside by The Thirteenth Tale which is calling rather more loudly from the bedside table.
And now we’re off for more adventuring…with plenty of knitting and reading thrown in for good measure.
Thanks for stopping by – for more yarn along posts visit Ginny at Small Things.
It’s so fun seeing all these great books in the yarn along. The Thirteenth Tale is calling but I just can’t get to it and I’m trying to dive into 2 books at the same time.
Simplicity Parenting is good definitely stick with it.
Oooo… The sweater is looking so good! I hope you are able to finish it in time. Enjoy your vacation!
I really enjoyed that book, hope you do too 🙂
Oh, So many great post since last time I checked in!
The jacket is going to be so sweet. And I love The thirteenth tale when I read it a few years ago.
Hope you all have a wonderful vacation!!
Your knitting is really moving along! I read The Thirteenth Tale a few years ago, it’s one of my favorites! Glad you are getting some much needed rest, it won’t be long now. I am so excited for you Rachel. Enjoy this day.
The sweater looks great! I really enjoyed SImplicity Parenting. Looks of good ideas and things to think about 🙂 And fairly short chapters/ sections so I could put it down as needed 😉
Rachel, I can’t believe you’re knitting that cardi with the stripes! I just came across it myself on ravelry, and fell in love! I love the colors you have chosen. 🙂 And probably I will make it for Asa!
<3
The cardi is looking gorgeous. Glad to hear you are getting some much needed rest. Tiny tea leaves is such a cute pattern. I am determined to knit my own tea leaves. Have had the pattern for two years, so it is about time. Jacinta
Oh, the cardie is coming along so nicely, almost done!
I’m glad you’re getting some peaceful time to yourself – and your knitting – and your reading..
have a lovely day
Love that jacket – and how good to be able to root through someone else’s button stash! Enjoy the new book – i feel the same about fiction – I am very much a non-fiction reader. Enjoy your break – get lots of rest. xx
The Winnie Cooper looks awesome! Simplicity Parenting is a pretty quick read. I think you’ll enjoy it. 🙂
Congrats on winning that great giveaway!
Ahhh…yet another book to add to my list to-read.
Have a fun and safe vacation!
I like all of the sweaters you linked! I agree with focusing on one project before getting sidetracked by another. But sometimes I just cannot help casting on 🙂 Glad you are getting your R and R!!!!
That sweater is awesome! I think you will like Simplicity Parenting. It’s so hard not to get sidetracked with other enticing projects. I do find if I have one long/boring project, it helps to have another super-short project on the needles. I could never do several sweaters at once simply because I would confuse myself. 😉
The sweater is lovely! LOVELY! Don’t pick up the thirteenth tale unless you plan on finishing it in one go… seriously… it’s that good!
Thanks for the tip about the Distant Hours. I was considering starting it, but I may start something else first. I did enjoy the “fastpacedness” of Forgotten Garden. The Thirteenth tale probably is calling you, it’s wonderful :). Winnie is coming along beautifully!
I loved the Thirteenth Tale! I might have taken a sick day and stayed in bed because it begged to be finished – might make it worth reading while you have the grandparents handy 😉
the sweater looks great…enjoy some down time for you and some fun family time!
Rachel–I am so happy are you are getting some great rest! We just returned from a visit to Grandma and it was so wonderful while it lasted. Now that we are back though, I am tired tired tired. Wishing you (and the baby) a lot more rest!
It took me a really long time to read Simplicity Parenting. And I didn’t finish it, at that. I need to borrow it from the library again so that I can finish that last little bit.
I also subscribe to the author’s blog, which I think I like better than the book – it’s in smaller, more digestible chunks. And it doesn’t need to be returned to the library, so I can read as I have time.
Glad to hear you are getting some rest. We are visiting Grammy & Pop-pop in two weeks and I’m hoping it is also a bit relaxing. Although I don’t need the rest quite the way you do! xo
Knitting on vacation…oh, you lucky girl! Your sweater looks so adorable. I can’t wait to see the finished object.
I’ve heard great things about The Thirteenth Tale.
Hope your vacation only gets better and better.
Woo hoo! Winnie Cooper! Looks lovely, of course it makes me want to knit one with a DVRd episode of Kevin Arnold on. Seriously have to make on for my little love.
Glad that you’re having some ‘free’ time so to speak to read & knit; 2 important pasttimes.
