I feel like these days I have a lot of pictures but not a lot of words. We are having such a wonderful time here. Relaxing (some of us, ahem, more than others), enjoying and exploring. I’ve been so blessed by the extra rest this time is offering me. My body feels so much better than it did when we first arrived, my mind has more opportunity to daydream about the little jumping bean we are all so anticipating and I’m so thankful for the opportunity to finish a small task and then sit down without the thoughts of a houseful of other tasks to complete first.
The kids are having the time of their lives, waking Grandma and Grandpa earlier each day in anticipation of the day’s events and going strong from dawn til dusk.
Tomorrow is a special day for a very special oldest sister. Birthday preparations have been happening all week and I almost have her birthday sweater ready…it may be missing its buttons and blocking but I’ll get the last button band finished tonight. She helped me make her cake today – her request was a vanilla cake with brown sugar fudge icing. It sort of makes my teeth crawl to think of all that sweet but we’re going to serve it with whipped cream and hope that softens the sugar blow.
We have a few other hopeful plans for the rest of the week- counting on the rain to stop first. There is a favourite dairy farm (with some milking for willing hands), strawberries that have just come ripe for picking at a local u-pick (hooray!!), a trip to visit the falls and a little more beach time.
Here’s a bit of how we’ve been spending our days…
trips around the house
baking with lemons and bananas in a kitchen so much roomier than mine at home
reconnecting with an old friend
building modern engineering marvels
hanging diapers to dry in the sun(!!!)
enjoying some familiar flavours
and some grandma and grandpa treats.
Oh yes, they have been special days.
Looks like you all are having a wonderful time!
And it must be great for you to be able to relax and recharge. My kids are with my mom and we’re getting them home on Friday. The house is very quiet and I miss them a lot, but it’s good to have some time to think and just do what ever I want to do for a little while 😉
Beautiful, I love the pictures summing up some of your time.
I must try those lemon raspberry swirl loafs, they look amazing.
Your family vacation looks wonderful. I bet you will not want to go home after all of the rest and relaxation!
It is definitely going to be hard to leave!
So glad you are having a great time Rachel. The pictures of the kid’s are great and I know the grandparents are loving having ya’ll there. Happy birthday to your daughter and when you get a chance please share the frosting recipe.
So glad you are having this time to rest and relax while your kids are busy and loved on! Happy Birthday to your daughter!!!
PS: What kind of cloth diapers do you use?
Oh I can feel the wonderful relaxation in your words!! I am so happy for you!! And Happy Birthday to your oldest girl!!! And is your old friend a piano? Did I pick up on that right? Oh how wonderful that you play, another thing to love about you!!
Thanks you sweet lady!
You read that right! I don’t play as well as I used to since I haven’t had a piano for over ten years but I’m so happy my in-laws bought one used a few weeks ago. If I didn’t fear I was boring everyone with my repetition I think I’d happily play all day. xoxo R
Rachel, It’s been awhile since I’ve stopped by and I only had a moment, but I love the photos! What a lovely time it looks like everyone is having. I’m hoping you are being treated well.
xo Jules

Sometimes you don’t need many words — the pictures tell the story! And these do so beautifully! Looks like you are having a wonderful time!
I’m glad that you are having special days! Your Fur Elise reminds me to pull out mine & become reacquainted with it too.
