I love the ocean. I long for it. I dream about it. I imagine the smell, the sounds, the taste and the feel of it when I am far away.
I grew up near the ocean. Summer vacations were spent there. Long weekends often included a drive along the shore. Many trips were made across the small strip of it between Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island when we visited my grandmother.
Now I live in Alberta. It feels very far away from the ocean. My ocean.
And as much as my home is most certainly wherever this family is together, returning to the ocean always feels like coming home.
It has been six long years since I visited my east coast home. I am thankful, though, that my in-laws have relocated to the west coast (a little more within reach than the east coast) giving us an ocean destination to visit.
It’s wonderful to breathe it in. Feel it beneath my feet. Explore its endless wonders and mysteries.
We’ve loved the opportunities to dig in, get dirty and soak it all up.
And someday I hope to have a permanent home near the ocean.
One where we can kick off our shoes and enjoy many long days adventuring.
Do you have a home away from home? Somewhere that always calls you back? Or are you settled in your heart’s home?
*Sigh*
Beautiful.
What beautiful pictures. That sky, that ocean… I can see how you miss it.
I love your photos of the ocean it looks rustic and so pretty. It looks like you have had wonderful weather while you are visiting!
I too love the ocean. I hope your last days by the sea are as wonderful as what you have pictured here. My heart’s home is with my family in Texas, in the sweltering heat and eternal summer. xoxo
OH Rachel- I am SO with you. I am all about the ocean. Let me know whenever I can help you with East Coast ocean fix! Maybe we can get those “someday” ocean houses side by side? xoxo!!
So lovely to hear your Maritime “reminiscing” – all the senses are so profoundly stimulated by the ocean. Rachel – you have such a way of imparting deep and lasting memories!!
Beautiful. No… I take it back. Stunning! I love the ocean. It is where my heart is the most content in the whole world. I needed this tonight… thank you.
Great photos. You are having such a lovely time! I love the ocean, but something happened to me in Vermont…I feel so at home there and long for it the same way. I do hope you make it to the east coast some time!
my home away from would have to be the ocean as well. i grew up spending summers on galveston, taking the ferry back and forth to the mainland. then when living in montreal i made it to nova scotia, and felt so at home in this place where i know my ancestors lived. i keep telling my husband the maine coast would be perfect, a light house nearby would make it dreamy. also, have the same birks as you only mine are red 🙂
You always have a ‘home away from home’ with us should you choose to visit. Seriously. We’d love to have your brood meet our brood. Anytime.
