I’m capturing one last yarn along image before we leave this island paradise and head for home.
I’ve had such a productive week for knitting – at the expense of my reading – but it’s been great to speed along on some projects I was worried I wouldn’t get done in time.
My Yellow Girl is only a few rows short of being cast off at the body and picked up at the sleeves. I’m using Berroco Ultra Alpaca – it is so lovely and one of my favourite wools. I’ve also finished the body of the puerperium that I’ve been making for the new babe in Fisherman’s Wool. Now I have lots of sleeves, weaving in of ends, blocking and buttons ahead of me…not my favourite pastimes but I’m hoping that I’ll at least have a chance to finish up the sleeves during the long drive home. If my attention wanders from those pesky sleeves I do have the pattern and wool ready to begin the Owlie Sack I mentioned a while back. It’s my reward for (almost) getting the birthday sweaters done.
And speaking of birthday sweaters I did completely finish my Winnie Cooper and only a few days late. I have yet to grab some modelled pictures but hopefully you’ll get a peek in the next week or so.
I’m still reading Simplicity Parenting and enjoying it although I’ve only been picking it up while I’ve been luxuriating in my in-laws soaker tub (losing some gravity can do wonders for a heavily pregnant body). I love the talk of simplification of toys, clothing, etc (although I hesitate over his recommendation to reduce the amount of books simply because I love them so). As I mentioned last week, it’s so nice to hear so many of our values echoed and I feel more empowered to make some “executive decisions” over some of the toys we’ve stockpiled. As much as we try to keep it to a minimum by choice and necessity in our small space, they can add up over birthdays and Christmas. I have a mental list of some sorting and purging to do when we get home!
I’m also looking through Gentle Babies which is a guide to the use of essential oils through pregnancy, infancy and childhood. We use essential oils all the time and they’ve been so useful during this pregnancy. Now I’ve been reading through the information on labour and thinking about which oils I’d like to have on hand. It is exciting to think about the approach of this new little one!
Now I’m off to finish up some last minute packing, take the buns out of the oven for tomorrow’s lunch and maybe finish off those last few rows on the Yellow Girl.
Thanks for stopping by! I may be a day late in my visiting but I’m looking forward to seeing what other’s are up to over at Ginny’s yarn along.
I love vacation knitting. So much can be accomplished. I also am on the sleeves of a sweater. I admit that I veered away for a bit for a quick knit. I used the Ultra Alpaca in the sweater I knit for myself earlier this year. Loved that yarn. My plan is to make sweaters for each of my three for the holidays. I am liking your patterns. Tea leaves has been in my queue – did you like it? Any other good patterns (8yr boy, 6yr girl, 3yr boy). Oh, and it is always nice to get reenforcement for what you know is right.
Those sweaters are looking great! It is quite exciting to choose buttons.
I’m so impressed – I can never sit still enough during vacations to be able to knit a sweater like you have! I really love that yellow colour too. And congratulations on your pregnancy and hope that it all goes smoothly. We would love to have 6 children one day too! When are you due?

The sweaters are looking gorgeous. I’m glad you have been able to treat yourself to some knitting while you have been away. Looking forward to seeing them finished. Jacinta
Love the yellow one 🙂 I need to start to knit some sweaters too – fall/winter isn’t that long away… I have the yarn, just need to get the inspiration 😉
I’m actually hosting a giveaway of Simplicity Parenting this week 🙂
I really enjoyed it too, though like you I can’t bring myself to part with our books 🙂
I love that yellow sweater. What a fabulous colour!
Rachel, how wonderful that you have had time to accomplish so much knitting. I love, love, the yellow girl and must find some of that yarn! I hope your trip home is a safe one.xx
I agree with you about Ultra Alpaca-so soft! The Yellow Girl sweater is gorgeous, I love the yellow! So so cheerful. Safe travels~
Your sweaters look great and I can’t wait to see the Winnie Cooper 🙂
I loved Simplicity Parenting too. Like you said, so empowering. And anxiety causing to think about parting with books 🙂
Have a safe trip home!
I love that yellow!! Natural yarns look so perfect on babies too – like they are both just at their best state.
Everything looks great!
Oh, goodness! I’ve just added yet another of the sweater patterns you’ve been working on to my faves list in ravelry. Your Yellow Girl is beautiful! You have superb taste in handknits. Also your Puerperium is coming along quite nicely. Looking forward to pics of the Winnie Coooper.
Love the yellow girl! My tiny tea leaves for a friend is almost finished…I’m so bad at the finishing part…I start right in on new projects. I love that color, I’ve got some Malabrigo silky merino in the same color to make myself a tea leaves cardi…if I every find the time.
The sweaters are just beautiful! I am working on some baby hats with alpaca and just loving it.
Warm wishes, Tonya
I swear toys reproduce in the corners. Birthday and Christmas presents can be rough when you are trying to declutter. Your knitting is so lovely. Congrats on finishing Winnie!
The sweaters are lovely! Can’t wait to see Winnie…
Aw, so much wonderful knitting accomplished, well done you!
I love, love, love the owlie sack, it’s just the cutest thing. It’s been in my queue for a while, I’m just waiting for the right baby to come along.
Safe journeys on your way home.
The yellow tea leaves is just beautiful! I am happy to have stumbled upon your beautiful knitting today. The Winnie looks like a great pattern and I think I might like a Winnie for one of my girls this fall! Hope you have a great time on the rest of your vacation.

Rachel, I can’t believe how much you have accomplished. Vacationing with family and knitting=wonderful. I can’t wait to read Simplicity Parenting–I have also heard of his recommendations about losing your books and I don’t think I can go there. I tried to do some purging in that department the other day and it was really hard!
What beautiful baby sweaters! I especially love the yellow. 🙂
I think Lawhead is definitely worth revisiting, if ever you get a chance–I am very much enjoying rediscovering him. 🙂
Such beautiful knitting and I adore the color!
Your sweaters are beautiful. I love the yellow of the Tiny Tea Leaves. I’m working my way through Simplicty Parenting also and have issues with trying to simplify our book collection. It is just so hard for me. I love books.
Blessings, Elizabeth
