It’s almost Wednesday and I’m linking with Ginny for yarn along.
Has it been a week? How did that happen? It’s been a blur but there has been some knitting and reading happening…more knitting than reading which seems to be a common theme for me lately.
I finished Yellow Girl and my puerperium…apart from those pesky buttons. Yellow Girl is so sweet – I just love it. It’s for my little lady’s birthday later this week so I’d better get on those buttons. I will definitely be using the tiny tea leaves pattern again. It was easy to follow and well written. The puerperium was also a great pattern. I love it – even if it does look gigantic next to the newborn clothes I got washed and ready this week. Svenna offered her warning that it may end up closer to a 3-6 month size but I didn’t heed her advice soon enough (Svenna is the puerperium queen – she even has some in her shop). Although I’m dreaming of tiny newborn knits 3-6 months will be a more realistic age (and season) for sweater wearing but I am tempted to cast on a second in a tinier size.
After mentioning last week that I was going to knit this hat I tore it out and decided to knit a baby bonnet instead. None of my babes have worn a baby bonnet before so I’m hoping this will suit. I’m also hoping there is enough of that gorgeous cashmere blend for some socks or booties.
Last but not least I’ve been working on the Owlie Sack. I love the green Cascade Heathers wool I’m using and can’t wait to see it finished – and snuggling a baby! All these baby knits are getting me even more excited to meet our new addition.
Does this picture remind any of you of a mid-winter shot? Had to snag this photo during a hailstorm and it was suddenly very dark. I’ll update my ravelry shots when I get some sunshine tomorrow so you can get a better look at these projects.
After that long-winded delve into my knitting projects I feel somewhat apologetic about dragging you all into a long-winded discussion of my reading materials….I’ll aim for brief. I’m still enjoying Simplicity Parenting and raving that every parent should read it. If you haven’t you should. It’s great. I’ve been adding more knits to my queue from Vintage Knits for Modern Babies and More Last-Minute Knitted Gifts (my turn came up at the library again). And today I found my copy of what I consider to be the birth book, Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth – I think anyone who is expecting or expects to be expecting should read it. I’m looking forward to revisiting her wisdom over the next couple of weeks.
Thanks always for visiting and if you’re interesting in more yarn along posts sharing current reads and knitting (or crocheting) projects stop by Ginny’s place.
Hope the week is treating you well!
what adorable little baby clothes. I love the yellow tiny tea leaves! Im making a tea leaves at the moment although mines a few sizes bigger (for myself lol:)
Rachel, all of the baby items are just so adorable! I don’t know how you find time to accomplish so much with all that you do. I have heard so many lovely things about tea leaves that it makes me want to cast one on! xx
It would be a dream come true if your winter picture was TAKEN in winter. I grow weary of the summer heat. The baby items are so beautiful and your little one will be the best dressed baby in town 🙂 I hope you are sleeping better !!!
Such beautiful knits!!!
I love the colours and patterns.
Bonnets on newborns are my favourite as well 🙂
Thanks Rachel, your knitting all looks amazing! I love the yellow tea leaves, I can’t wait to see your little birthday girl in it soon. I’ll have to make some puerperiums with long sleeves too, they are sweet! And it’ll be perfect for your littlest one when he/she is a few months old. All so very exciting!
I tried to get Simplicity Parenting from our library since I’ve heard so many good things about it, but they don’t have it in their catalogue. 🙁 One day…
I remember reading Ina May while I was expecting Kaya… oh sweet memories!
Your knits are lovely! Ina May’s is one that I’ve been intregued by but isn’t one I’ve been able to find easily – maybe I’ll make a bigger effort to get it for the next pregnancy.
Oh, they all look wonderful and so buttery and creamy and soft. Hope your daughter treasures her sweater.
Your knitting is so gorgeous-light or no light! It’s just so pretty!
Just look at that beautiful stack of knits… and so many more on the needles and swimming in your head!
Blessings, Debbie
I love your work! Your little sweaters are so sweet and I really love the yellow.
Such cosy squishy knits! Love them!
Stinkin’ cute, Rachel!
look at all that lovely knitting mama! I wanna see that belly of yours!
Wow you have been so busy! Some really nice knits there! Good job! I have the tiny tea leaves in my faves for my 3 year old and I’m also planning on making the owlie sack.
You’ve really gotten a lot done! And everything turned out beautifully. I love your Yellow Girl and Puerperium. Funny thing, I just ordered Vintage Knits for Modern Babies through interlibrary loan just for the bonnet pattern (and a sweater pattern I’m thinking of).
LOVE Ina May! Are you planning a homebirth? That bonnet is so sweet and the owlie sack…ADORABLE! And today’s shot looks so cozy – hope the hail didn’t hurt anything, but glad it gave you that moment :-).
*sigh*
Looking at & reading about all your sweet little baby knits is giving me a serious case of babylust… so beautiful, all of them…
(They’re also making me long for winter, or at least autumn, with the ridiculous humidex we’re having this week. Ugh.) xo
ina may is where it’s at. such a great read for a mama to be – i think every woman should get a copy of that book at their first midwife appt.
and you and all those baby knits…how do you get soooooo much done???
Gorgeous colors! Baby knits are wonderful, quick, and easy, but they’re my favorite things to make. Thanks for sharing. {visiting from the yarn along}
love your puerperium! And that owlie sack? Too much!!! I’ll be casting on for both of those as soon as I can get the yarn I want!

I really love the Vintage knits book. It is one of my favorites. And your knit are gorgeous!! It does look like a winter shot, lol, there should be a fire in the background, that would make it perfect!
What adorable baby knits! Best wishes to you and the new addition to your family. (Stopping by from Ginny’s Yarn Along)
Such warmth in your photo. It could be a fall or winter shot. I too love Ina May’s words. She was such a guiding light and full of so much information. I recommend it to anyone I know who is pregnant. I often kept her words in my mind when I was laboring during my last two homebirths
All of your knitting projects are gorgeous–especially love the tiny tea leaves. Just finished Simplicity Parenting a couple of weeks back–I agree: hands-down the best parenting book I’ve read in a long time (probably ever). I’d love to knit something from Vintage Knits–great designs!
Beautiful as always!
Beautiful baby stuff 🙂
Rachel,
I can’t wait to see the bonnet! I sewed Eva a bonnet this year, and she wears it all the time. It may be one of my favorite things for a baby to wear.
k.
What beautiful projects! I totally agree with you on Ina may’s book, I re read it every time I am pregnant, especailly towards the end.
I can’t wait until I feel strong enought to knit for our new babe on the way 🙂
