Another Wednesday, another yarn along, more baby knits.
This week I got to those buttons so Yellow Girl was gifted to a happy birthday girl and puerperium was folded away with the clothes for baby. I’ve been focusing on the my Little Bean Bag (Owlie Sack pattern found here) and loving this pattern as well. The cables were fun and while I often rush through the shaping so I can enjoy the mindless stockinette in a project I’ll admit I’m a little bored of the round and round.
For a break from the stockinette I cast on this diaper cover in the same natural Fisherman’s Wool I used for the puerperium. I was excited to get into the short rows in the pattern when I realized the next needle size I needed was being used for owlie sack so I’m back to the stockinette. I also purchased this sweet soaker pattern and while I’m sure the pattern is great it is very long and detailed which kind of freaked me out so I’ll see how the first one goes. It’s so hard to know the proper sizing for a newborn. With every new babe I’m always amazed at how tiny they are so I’m afraid I’m may be oversizing all these sweet knits.
I’m also showing the newbie hat I started an age ago and for some reason never completed so I force myself to finally finish it to start on these sweet booties to match.
Bored of baby knits? Unfortunately I am not. As I mentioned in this previous post, I’m baby knit crazy. I’ll get over it (I’m starting to plan my Christmas knitting) but I don’t promise it will be soon.
In books I’m still working on Simplicity Parenting…very slowly…as that is my non-fiction reading speed. I’ve also finished the second half of Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth. For those unfamiliar with it the book is divided into two sections. The first section is all birth stories and the second is more practical teaching on childbirth and midwifery. I skipped the first section this go through because I find I do better if I don’t fill my mind with too many other experiences this close (hopefully) to childbirth. I love reading about other’s birth stories but at this point I’m focusing on trusting the process without overwhelming the issue with possibilities.
Now I’m hoping to plough through the rest of Simplicity Parenting and reward my non-fiction commitment (because I generally feel this deserves a pat on the back) by finally reading The Thirteenth Tale which I’ve been renewing at the library for quite a few weeks now.
Thanks for coming by today and if you’re interested in more yarn along posts visit Ginny at Small Things.
That baby sac is so sweet, I love the owl cables.
I have my eye on the Thirteenth Tale to read this summer. It’s amazing how tiny the clothes for a new baby are and they grow into them so quickly.
Can never have too many baby knits!! Oh and I die for those mary jane booties! So completely adorable 🙂
I love all the baby knits! Puerperium is on my future-babies-to-knit-for list after seeing your lovely version.
Oh, I’m not tired of seeing baby knits! It makes my heart go pitter-patter as I imagine the little one wearing them. 🙂
I love seeing all the baby knits…bring them on! xx
That owl sack is wonderful, I’ve never seen that pattern before, it’s so sweet, the colour you’re using is lovely too. Good luck with the birth and all your preperations, it’s a special time preparing for the arrival of a new little one.
Your baby is going to look so very cute in that owl sack! The green is so pretty. I love Ina May. I was so very privileged to be in her company a few years ago at a home birth conference in Australia. She chose to sit at our table at the conference dinner and I got to chat to her in person. She is the most gorgeous person you would ever meet and is so full of practical birthing wisdom. I love her (oh, I said that already didn’t I!). Jacinta x
Not at all bored with baby knits. 🙂 Who could be?
I love the Owlie Sack – the cables are really cool. And the color is gorgeous!
Oh, you’re giving me such ideas and inspiration. That green owlie sack is such a beautiful color. I have a pregnant friend who would like one of these. Never done cable, although I don’t think it looks too hard. Do you need a lot of cable needles or something to hold the yarn on?
I’m like you with the library books – I tend to bring an enormous pile home with me and just keep renewing them over and over.
Not tired of seeing baby knits for the newest little jay at all!
Your knits are gorgeous. I love the colors you are using! And no I am not tired of baby knits. I love seeing what you are making!
Love your knitting! I just KNEW that the diaper cover pattern would be the vanilla before I clicked on it. I also bought that pattern awhile back and have yet to make it, because the pattern seemed a bit daunting!
Never tire of baby knits!
Bored of baby knits? No, no, no! And it’s a very good thing that you are’nt too!! I’m loving everything that comes off of your needles and am amazed at the speed…
Blessings, Debbie
WOW! You are having so much fun baby knitting!! They are so satisfying aren’t they? Ina May is just wonderful. Have you read her latest? I think that is really smart to avoid the first section so close to birth.
I love the baby knits! Ina May is my Guru for birthing. LOVE HER! I hope you love Thirteenth Tale as much as I did!
Oh, so much to do for that lucky little bean! Good you’re not getting bored of knitting, because we clearly aren’t bored of sharing all the woolly goodness with you. They all look fabulous, I love the green yarn for the owlie sack!
loved the thirteenth tale!
i have both of those soaker patterns and am not sure which i’ll knit first. i just started a pair of longies so i have a couple days to decide. i’ve been thinking of doing a sleep sack as well…is yours knit with worsted weight? i had looked at some made from fingering weight…might be more appropriate for our milder winter. decisions, decisions. and can i say i love how similar our tastes/plans for babyknits are!?!
I love, love, love the Owlie Sleep Sack! Thanks for sharing 🙂
Can’t wait to see the sleep sack when finished!! And your knitting is absolutely gorgeous!!! And keep those baby knits coming, I love seeing them! I hope you enjoy Thirteenth Tale!!!
You have been busy! I love seeing all the baby knits. I wish I had learned to knit when mine were little. Luckily I have a few expecting friends. I think I will be knitting a sleep sac or two.
Blessings, Elizabeth
I wish we could knit together! We’d have fun:)
Oh, I love the owlies! That’s such a sweet pattern.
I love that owlie sleep sack. I think I’m going to do an owlie vest for my little guy.
Love the varied greens in that yarn!
Unfortunately, I did not post about my knitting and reading last week. I went to the beach and was too busy packing to blog about my projects. I LOVE the oils; they are so cute!!!
[…] The extra waiting has given me plenty of extra knitting time, though, and I’ve been happy to finish the projects I mentioned last week. […]
