We’ve come to another Wednesday and I’m still here – and still pregnant.
The extra waiting has given me plenty of extra knitting time, though, and I’ve been happy to finish the projects I mentioned last week.
The Little Bean Bag is finished and oh so sweet. Once again blocking did wonders for it and the owls really pop out now. I also finished the hat I mentioned last week and love the way it turned out. I was avoiding it because I thought it looked way to big but now I’m thinking it might just fit a newborn. The diaper cover I was working on also came off the needles but I’m not so impressed with it. Despite the many tutorials I’ve watched my short rows are not invisible and I found the pattern rather confusing. I’m hoping the first point can be remedied by trying it again and the second point is simply my prego fogged brain…so I cast on a second one on smaller needles. The first cover came out looking too big so I’m thinking I’ll felt it to hide some of its lesser qualities.
For a quick afternoon knit I made up a pair of sweet little baby socks – using up the rest of the gorgeous wool from the bonnet I made a couple of weeks ago. These were my first attempt at socks and being so quick and tiny made the process very satisfying.
Now I’m thinking of tackling the vanilla soaker pattern (it’s 18 pages intimidate me) or possibly purchasing the Picky Pants pattern. But really, despite my passion last week, I may be tiring of the baby knits and really just looking forward to holding this little one in my arms.
Sorry for the less than stellar photo – I lost my mind tonight and decided to bake up a storm, forgetting I had a photo to take.
With all the knitting that’s been going on I haven’t been reading as much but I did finish Simplicity Parenting. I’m sticking by my previous praise of it and telling everyone to read it. Finishing my non-fiction read meant I could reward myself by starting The Thirteenth Tale. I’m only on the second chapter but excited to finally get into it. I love getting lost in fiction – although my family may not always appreciate my complete absorption. While dreaming about knitting I’m also still perusing More Last Minute Knitted Gifts for baby and gift ideas.
Baby is calling for ice cream and the peach pie baking in the oven is starting to smell pretty tempting so I’m off for a snack.
For more yarn along posts visit Ginny at Small Things.
You have a very wise baby. Peach pie and ice cream sound wonderful 😉
I haven’t made the vanilla soaker, but I have worked with picky pants. It’s a great pattern, but I found the sheepy pants to be the most detailed and holds your hand the most if you’re confused.
I love waiting-for-baby-knitting. It is a sanity saver!
You’re the most productive pregnant mom! The owl pattern is so beautiful, I would like to have mittens with it.
I love getting lost in fiction, too. It’s hard sometimes when I try to cook with one hand on the page and someone starts crying and I just want to finish the paragraph instead of get the band aid.
Love your knits. Happy fingers awaiting a babe are the best kind.
I can’t wait to see your little one sporting all the beautiful things you’ve knitted so far! keep knitting! they all look adorable! 🙂
and hmmm peach pie and ice-cream sounds like the best snack on the world! 🙂
Beautiful baby knits! I also thoroughly enjoyed Simplicity Parenting and have recommended it to many friends. We have some peaches in the fridge — we may need to make a pie or a cobbler this week, too. Mmmmmmm!
“Baby calling for icecream” – love that :o)
Your baby knits are so gorgeous, I’m not sure I could manage an 18 page pattern, it would scare me.
Beautiful baby knits! I think you will like that book, it was quite good and had a great ending. Every day I wonder is this the day you have the baby???
you’re knitting up a storm! That will be one well-dress babe.
I like the vanilla soaker pattern! I’m more of a fan of the Perfection Pants patterns. You’ll get those short rows! I love all of your baby knitting! It is so fun!
That is the luckiest baby in the world!
Oh and 18 pages for a ‘Vanilla’ soaker pattern?! Are you kidding me?!
The hat is very cute and looks perfect for a newborn. I love the sweet little baby socks too.
Oh such fun for you! I love that owl sleep bag! I think I’ve mentioned to you before I have the owlet pattern that I have yet to make! I suppose I should join in on the yarn along this week, it’s been a while.
Mmm, peach pie and ice cream. Smart baby 🙂 I’m glad you’re getting so much done! The hat is so cute.
You are so wonderfully productive, between your canning, your knitting, your mothering, your pregnancy, and all the other things we don’t see. I am in awe of you still…Glad you’re enjoying Thirteenth Tale. I just started the Help and loving that too!
xx oo
Oh you definitely must be running on that adrenaline rush that comes right before delivery. You are so busy. I only had to wait for 1 overdue child – all my other 3 were early (2 were almost 2 weeks early!). Can’t wait to see your new little one. Get some rest.
Wow! You’ve been knitting up a storm too. Days full of knitting and baking and playing with kids are the best days ever. Your little bean bag is oh, so cute and I love the color you picked. I love matching baby bonnets and socks, so sweet! And the little hat is adorable as well.
I highly recommend the Vanilla soaker pattern. I’ve made several of these now and love the pattern. Although I will say the many pages are very intimidating, and I spent a lot of time ploughing through the pattern before starting it. Also my first attempt was not so great, but all subsequent ones turned out lovely. It’s a fast knit too.
I’ve heard great things about the Thirteenth Tale; it’s one of my co-worker’s favorite books.
For the Vanilla Soaker, I just used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes in a worsted weight, but I’m getting ready to knit a few more up in a DK weight alpaca yarn that I bought from the farmer’s market. The nice thing about that pattern is she gives instructions for multiple yarn weights and sizes.
*love* all the baby knits! The owl sleep sack is my favorite- how sweet!
Love baby knits. I made a pair of baby booties this week for a soon to arrive little nephew. I do love the quick, instant satisfaction of little knits. I remember my first soaker and its many imperfections. It did a fine job at covering a cloth diaper though! You will be amazed at how your short rows improve with practice. Enjoys these last few days. I know it is so hard. My first two came at 41 weeks. It can get quite long.
We’re all getting eager with you! We may not get to hold your small bundle, but I hope we get to stare at him/her often!! Especially in those great knits…
Blessings, Debbie
The baby socks are adorable and I do hope you will soon be putting them on little feet!
You know, you just need to be here and I’ll drive you up and down my long, bumpy dirt road to move things along! No seriously, he/she will come when they are done baking. I remember those last few days were always the longest. Take care Rachel and know that a lot of people are thinking and praying for you.xx
I hope you enjoyed your peach pie and take care of yourself during these waiting days!
Loved Simplicity Parenting too. lol, i love that you rewarded yourself with fiction. I am a non-fiction junkie and find it really hard to read fiction. maybe i should try your tactic! And I am so jealous you could knit anything in an afternoon. It would take me that long to figure out the instructions!
🙂

I love all your baby knits; such a lucky little one will be wrapped in lots of woolly goodness straight away. Knitting, baking, jam making – will you even have time to give birth? 😉
Thanks for recommending Simplicity Parenting- I’m reading it right now and I’m really enjoying it.
oh, I did the vanilla soaker pattern but had my daughter who is an excellent knitter help me out…..love that little hat so sweet!!
All your baby knits are fabulous! The sack is my fave!
I’m so looking forward to seeing your wee one in all the gorgeous things you’ve knit up! Well done on finishing up some non-fiction ;-).
love the owl sleep sack! and the thirteenth tale but i’ve probably already mentioned that about 20x.
keep on feeding that baby and making it happy…he’ll come when it’s time. patience mama!
gorgeous knits, I love the little bean bag. Look forward to seing your little baby knits being modeled soon:)
Oh great books!
I can so relate to the last minute knitting frenzy. Before my son was born I was cranking out the knits like a madwoman. I made a pair of longies in a day.I just kept thinking maybe I just need to finish a pair of longies and then baby will come…or finish the quilt I started…or maybe baby is waiting for a pair of handknit socks. I hiked up to the mt every day but baby was still 6 days “late”.
Try and rest Mama, baby will be here soon. I can’t wait to hear the news.
Blessings for a smooth and peaceful birth.
13th tale was great!
