I’m writing this yarn along edition a day early as we’re spending our Tuesday on the road.
I’ve had lots of knitting fun this week. I finished the body of the Classic Raglan and good news for me it fits my big guy – despite the fact I wasn’t thinking it would be for him when I cast on. As I mentioned last week, theΒ wool and pattern are perfect mindless knitting.Β I made lots of progress on it while returning from a day trip late at night despite the near blackness (uh, while Dan was driving). Plain old stockinette, round and round on circulars with no splitting wool while trusting my hands to know the way was fun and felt kind of freeing.
My Rae is coming along – I’m on the decreases now. The fingering weight alpaca is beautifully soft but I do get tired of the thin stitches. I am though very excited to wear my new scarf so I’m hoping to get a lot done during our long drive through the mountains.
I sorted out the figure eight castΒ on (found this tutorial after the fact) that was stumping me last week. The pattern, which I can’t share with you as it’s top secret gift knitting, actually explained it quite well I just took a couple tries to get it right. Now I’m on my way and absolutely in love with the wool and the big chunky stitches it’s giving me.
My search for a nice gentle read found me browsing through my mother-in-law’s book shelf. I found my current read, An Irish Country Doctor, there. Oddly enough we gave it to her for Christmas a couple of years ago without knowing much about it. I haven’t read far yet but it seems just right for keeping me company during nursing sessions (that is when I’m not being regaled with a certain four-year-olds thoughts).
I’m wishing I could sit by the fire here a little while longer but we’re off on our adventure home.
Happy Wednesday!

Safe travels home! What gorgeous yarn you are using. Knitting in the dark can definitely be freeing and it is a confidence booster.
Excited to find out what you are knitting. Looks super!
Wishing you peaceful travels home. I just read Habibi, not exactly gentle but so absorbing. I love the consistency of stockinette and I how you described it is just perfect. Sounds like you’ve got a great pile of projects.
Hi Rachel π
It seems like forever since I’ve had a chance to pop over to your blog! I hope you all had a great summer and I can’t wait to see more of your top secret project π Hugs.
Thanks for the link to the figure 8 cast on, I will check that out. I have a few top secret projects I’m working on that I wish I could show. After the holiday’s we should have a special showing of all the items! I hope you have a peaceful, safe trip home and get in lots of knitting time! xx
I really love the color of the yarn you are knitting with, so “fallish” for the season. Fireside knitting is so relaxing isn’t it?
love the colors on that wool!! and yay for mindless knitting–so soothing :). happy adventures home!!
xo
Loving the colours of your yarn. Glad you figured out the cast on. I’m loving everyone’s secret knitting projects. There sure are some very lucky people out there is all I can say. Have a safe trip. Jacinta x
I just tried knitting in the semi-dark – while my husband drove, I used the vanity mirror light for a little extra seeing power. Arrive home safely!
Safe and gentle travels home to you. You were so close during your visit…I wish we could have sat by the fire together, knitting. π
The Rae looks great, and super secret knitting…what fun! I hope your trip is smooth.
I can’t wait to see π I love the yarns.
Oh, the thoughts of a 4-year-old. I love them but at the same time they are never-ending.
I love the colorway of the yarn you’re using for your super secret gift. Beautiful!
Be safe on your drive back home, and I hope you get a lot of knitting time in.
Safe journeys to you and your family – and happy knitting along the way. I found myself wishing for a long-ish car journey to have some uninterrupted knitting time. I quite like the challenge of knitting in the dark – i’ve been known to knit in the cinema. π
yes safe travels, i hope you are able to get lots of knitting in. your secret gift knitting is beautiful. π
Glad you found the cast on that you were looking for. Be safe as you travel home!
Sometimes it’s hard to do the mama thing… especially when there is a good book going. Four year olds, 16 year olds… I’ve found that age doesn’t matter. If I’m sitting, they’re talking. π
Blessings, Debbie
I really like that brown colourway! Great work!
Seems like you have been a busy mama!! I have made very little knitting progress this week… little enough that i didn’t even do a yarn along post.
That yarn is gorgeous. I am just now trying to knit in the dark. It is freeing! π
This photo looks so cozy! I wish I could sit with you in this nook!
Such beautiful yarn…yum. And your knitting space looks especially warm and cozy. Glad that things are coming along nicely!
That looks so cozy. We have been fluctuating between early winter weather and late summer weather, such as autumn tends to be. I was dreaming of a cozy fire during the cold rain earlier this week!
What a great shot! Can I knit with you?
Top secret gift knitting and car knitting=the best ever! Good luck!
