First off, thank you so much for all the love yesterday! So many wise and encouraging words to wake up to.

This week has been kind of topsy turvy but amidst the strangeness there has still been some knitting and reading, more of the later during the days I was flat out.
My hopes of clearing some needle space were a little lofty when I realized my illness was more than a little inconvenience. I did nearly finish my Rae. Unfortunately I ran out of wool just short of the end so a return to the yarn store is in order. I did start on the last of the Sextuple Tornados for Mira and am about to cast on a sweet little hat for her Halloween noggin*.
Mostly though I’ve been trying to organize my brain. Printing some patterns, glancing (once again) through my stash, making some (more) lists and prioritizing to prevent unneeded (and unwanted) stress.
As for reading I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of An Irish Country Doctor. It was just what the, excuse me, doctor ordered – a sweet, humorous novel. I followed it up with another great read, The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place. The Incorrigibles is just what I love in a children’s novel – humour, mystery and adventure. Add to that the fact of the main character being a most endearing governess and my Jane-Eyre-loving heart was smitten. This novel captured my fancy much like The Mysterious Benedict Society, another favourite series of mine, and the illustrations in The Incorrigibles are perfectly and charmingly imagined. I’m such a sucker for children’s novels.
A certain little girl and her daddy are begging some mama relief so I’m off Β to a bout of baby holding…what a shame, huh?!
*For the record, Halloween is a holiday I usually prefer to see the back of but as the kids have fully discovered the joy of the costume hunt I’ve decided to make friends with it. I don’t appreciate the candy (we still have candy in their bags from last year…) but the costume designing is proving exciting for more than just the littles.

joining Ginny for yarn along
How fun! My yarn along book is Book 3 of the Mysterious Benedict Society this week! I’ll have to look into Incorrigible next. π
Ooh I must check out the book as we loved the Mysterious Benedict Society and I just love the owl hat you are going to knit. I just faved it in my ravelry *grin*. We don’t do Halloween as a candy event either but I’ve always made or purchased costumes for the kids for fun and it’s actually my husbands birthday so we have a big party at home with spooky food and fun π Every year I try to come up with something horribly disgusting to make that they will love LOL. Thinking of you π
Hugs
I am so sorry you ran out of yarn and must now force yourself to make the dreaded trip to the yarn store, how will you do it? π
Take care of yourself and enjoy holding that little sweet one!
xx
Aw, you have to go to the yarn store? That is a shame…..NOT! Love the knits you are working on. Have fun with the kids this halloween!!
I feel the same about Halloween. I really don’t care for it but I’ll do the fun stuff for the boys.
Have a good trip for yarn! π
Oh that book looks good. Love the cover art. Glad you’re on the mend.
That book sounds right up my son’s alley – incorrigible! Happy, relaxing, brain organizing π
I’ll have to check out The Incorrigibles…I loved The Mysterious Benedict Society. I too hate the candy aspect of Halloween, but the costume making is much fun around here. I find that the excitement for the candy goes away after the day itself…
Can’t wait to see the costumes you are creating. I still have a lot to do this week!!
the book sounds like a good one!
Oh man the trip to the yarn store is just the worst. π I am excited to see the costumes you whip up-so very fun!
oh yes, we loved that book in this house!!!
I tried to read that book a awhile back but didn’t have time to fully engage in it. I will have to pick it up again! Did you know there’s more than one?
I’m so glad that you’re back on the mend, Rachel.
I love the name of the kids’ hats, too. Mira is going to look just darling in the owl hat, too.
I just got An Irish Country Doctor from the library today thanks to your mentioning it. Can’t wait to start. Hope you are fully recovered soon!
Ooh, that owl hat is going to be the cutest. Halloween is not a big thing over here, and apart from pumpkin carving we’ve never done much about it. But I wouldn’t mind knitting an owl hat some day. π
Oh, Halloween candy! I wish I could say I hated it…and I do in a way because I can’t stay out of it. I don’t usually keep candy in the house but when S gets a bag full of it I tell myself, as I’m eating the worst of it, better that I get all junk food than my kid.
Can’t wait to see your kids’ costumes!
I have always been fond of governess stories, too because of my love of the book, Jane Eyre. It has always been one of my favorites and I’ve read it several times. I’ve made a note of these incorrigible children and will look forward to reading of their adventures.
I checked out the Incorrigible book and it looks fantastic. Loving the Lemony Snicket factor — thanks so much for the pick. And, I’m so with you on the candy front with Halloween. I love making and piecing the costumes together, but do not enjoy candy binging children.
So glad you are feeling better. Never heard of the Incorrigibles but they sound great. Glad your having fun with Halloween costuming! The owl hat is wonderful!! I could do without the candy part too, and its funny how the kids always tend to forget about the candy after a few days (hooray)!
xoxo
Glad you’re feeling better. Personally I love Halloween. Not for the candy but because I love seeing how much fun all the kids around me have. It’s wonderful too experience the holiday through the eyes of the kids. It’s also an important holiday for my Aunt, so it’s always had a slightly deeper meaning for me.
