This weekend got busy real fast. Between costume making, pumpkin carving and some small home renos it flew by in a blink. Despite the lengthy to-do list, we found plenty of ways to enjoy ourselves.
There was a family grocery outing (think groceries are boring? go as a family of eight), a quick thrift shop where I grabbed a missing title and updated a dog-eared copy, and an indulgent fall treat.Β The wonderful switch to the flannel sheets, woollens in full force but hoping we can last without the furnace for another couple of weeks. A last (produce) market visit of the year and a seriously embarrassing amount of apples (we’re set until January at least). An extensive pumpkin carving session including the use of previously untested methods (Dan’s Dremel and my stamp carving tools). Too many sugar cookies, too few vegetables but lots of apples. A beautiful fall walk with great friends and no camera, a late night cutting felt and enjoying a classic of sorts, and a late, late night finishing a peacock’s tutu.
Not enough sleep, great company, hot drinks, laughter, tears and spooky pumpkins*. Everything the last weekend in October needs.
Happy Monday! How’d you enjoy this October weekend?
*Despite our “nothing scary” halloween rule we ended up with a couple of rather spooky pumpkins thanks to some creative imaginations. The skull is not spooky, though, it’s just bones…some kids here would like you to know.
I love your pumpkins and I could eat one of those sugar cookies, even if it’s 6:00 a.m.! Oh, and it needs a pumpkin-spice latte on the side!
I think you are very brave to take the whole family to the market! I usually try and get someone else to take my list since it’s not one of my
favortite places. Now the thrift store is another matter and I’m glad to hear you found a book you were missing. I have my set of The Little House books on a shelf just waiting to be read!
I hope your Monday is just as lovely as your weekend.
xx
What did you do to make the skull pumpkin? it looks great, as do the other two! I hop you post photos of the kids in their costumes….I would love to see this peacock!
The cookies look so delicious and yummy, I want one π I cannot imagine grocery shopping with eight. I was done in by my two children, back in the day.
oh i agree… not scary, totally natural π we have a not scary skull pumpkin here too. sounds like a great day! i have shopping with 8 down okay, i’m gearing up to begin shopping with 9. that one creeps me out a bit.
Great pumpkins! Just we are busy in mid costume making right now…last minute tends to be our style.
Happy Halloween, Rachel! We also have a “no scary” rule. π

Sounds like a fantastic weekend – can’t wait to see all the fantastic costumes. Have a great Halloween. Love to all.
I have such a happy image of all 8 of you grocery shopping together! π Happy Halloween!!
Very full weekend for sure! Those pumpkin cookies look good, but I’ve eaten my share of candy for the year in about 3 days, so…
Hope you’re still able to rest and get back to full speed!
