My needles are not as empty as I’d hoped as this new week has rolled around. I’ve got new projects begging to hop on so tonight I am casting off on the last of the Sextuple Tornados and my Ocean Rae. I really am. No buts. The Rae was held up when I ran out of wool and I finally made the necessary yarn store visit today. While there this Malabrigo Sock jumped into my hand. How could I say no to a colour like that? It just may become a second Rae…Call me a gluten if you will.
I did finish the sweet owl hat for the smallest little. I’ve decided that it can’t be strictly for Halloween because no one even noticed it on her. While I can hardly blame them as she was conked out in the Ergo, I’ve decided it will find more wear – despite our friend commenting that the chin strap makes her look like Abe Lincoln (modelled here). Well!
In my search for lighthearted novel reading I’ve falling again (quite willingly) into the Harry Potter series. Don’t know if I’ll make it the whole way through but I’m enjoying The Philosopher’s Stone during those few moments I find myself picking up a book. The comfort of an old favourite always feels right*.
What old favourites do you find comfort in? Do you have a favourite book series or pick-me-up read?
*Speaking of old favourites, this new song is working its way into that category.
I really enjoyed the HP series. I reread it a bit when my son wanted to read it. I am not sure what my go to read is. I find it hard to reread lately since I have little time to read and want something new!
That song is divine! I am in love.
Anne of Green Gables is my fall-back comfort read.
Whenever I am sick I just fall into Avonlea and Glen St. Mary and I feel better.
I wouldn’t mind a photo of your sweet babe as Abe Lincoln 😉
When I want to read an old favourite- I either go for Terry Pratchett or find an author I love and find out what they have written most recently.
Love the looks of your project 🙂
I always have a bunch of projects waiting to be knit as well. Or many on different needles! My favorite series of books is by Donna Ball and it’s the Ladybug Farm Series. Makes me want to go pull it off the shelf!
Awww… well now I want to see the owl hat : ( Post a pic : )
I love Harry Potter. I reread books often too! One of my favorites is the Stephanie Plum Series – One For the Money is the first one.
Loved Harry Potter, too. I just requested some “chick lit” from the library. I haven’t read anything light in ages.
I LOVE your yarn color!
Nicola
Oh, and in answer, I love the Stephanie Plum series, too. I also love Sophie Kinsella, Jane Green, and Rosamunde Pilcher. I guess the brainless reading one chooses says a lot, doesn’t it?
Harry Potter! I love it.
Aw, the owlie hat definitely can be an everyday one, so sweet – and good luck getting everything done!
I have never read the Harry Potter books, but my kid’s have loved them! I have to second Kristi, the Stephanie Plum books, by Janet Evanovich, are a sweet light read and number 18 comes out this month. I laugh out loud when I read them.
I am so glad you could force yourself into the yarn store for more wool and the Malabrigo sock yarn? Drool!
xx
Love reading old favorites. Maeve Binchy and Rosemaude Pitcher are always my go-to’s.
The WIP’s are looking lovely – love that you made an owl hat – so creative and well loved, I am sure 🙂
Haha, yarn always seems to jump into my basket of it’s own accord. I mean it’s not like it@s essential is it? Oh yes, it is! Funny, I’ve never read Harry Potter, despite having queued at midnight for several of the books for my now grown son.
I think I read Harry Potter at least once per year…mainly because there have been books and movies coming out for the past 10 years, and I love them 🙂
I love rereading Harry Potter. I tend to go back to the Wrinkle in Time books too, I adore Madeline L’Engle!
Isn’t it amazing how little skeins of yarn somehow hitch a ride home with you? Ha! Abe Lincoln – I can sort of see that – so adorable she is!
Loved, loved, loved the Harry Potter series.
As far as “comfort reading”…I…umm go with the dog-eared copies of the Harlequin romance novels I’ve had since I was a teenager. I am a sad, sad woman. 😉
Hi!
I never could get into the Harry Potter series but my older boys sure love them. I tend to enjoy reading really simple Christian fiction (usually centered around a woman living back 100 or more years ago) when I want simple mindless night time reading.
Your knitting is gorgeous!
I love the owlie hat! I think it’d work well all fall and winter, not just halloween. Owls are in favor. Also, love the malabrigo that jumped into your hand.
I love the HP series and have read them twice. Wuthering Heights is my go to comfort read. I always get something new out of it. Glad you are making progress on your knitting.
I’ve read the HP series several times but usually just before the next movie is released. My cover of the first book is quite different from yours so I am guessing you must be in the UK!
I mean come on, Lisa Hannigan and Ray Lamontagne?!? Too awesome.
I’m also re-reading HP (7).
Now you have a bAberham Lincoln (har.har.har) What a beautiful song! I think it’s time for me to make the HP series my first comforting “old favourite” 😉 xoxo
I like to re-read the Brother Cadfael series, by Ellis Peters. And the newer Jane Austen mysteries by Stephanie Barron.
The “Abe Lincoln” picture is so cute, but I really don’t see any resemblance there. 😉
the owl hat was adorable. and i heart harry potter. I have been thinking about re-reading the whole series to Finn. But maybe 4 is too young….
Harry Potter’s such a great go-to :). I was sad when I finished it with my son, but there is always hope that when the girl is older she will want me to read them with her ;).
Thanks for the link to that beautiful song!! Love Ray LaMontagne…
