I made this scarf for my daughter (6.5yrs). She liked it because she can wear it as a shawl, a scarf or a cowl. It is super quick too. http://www.ravelry.com/projects/esmerlda27/mustard-scarf

Shame about the miscount…the best bit about knitting though is that at least we can unravel and re-do…dark colours are much harder to work with when it comes to un-picking, dropped stitches etc. I love the colour though…it will be lovely when it’s completed.

That hand stitched felt book looks amazing…lovely projects…

    Have a good week
    Deb

  3. So, what’s wrong with you Rachel? You’d think you’d just had a baby or something… πŸ™‚

    Blessings, Debbie

  4. Kaylana says:

I fully understand the question, “What have I been doing this week?” I only got a few rows done and only a few chapters in the same book. Hardly worth a post… (and I don’t have a newborn!)
    Hope this week goes better!
Last week “lori times five” posted a gorgeous cowl. Hope you find something!
    Cheers!

  5. I seem to miscount everything I do at least once, and I have no excuse πŸ˜‰ I’m making a simple hat right now, and have managed to completely misread the pattern *sigh*

  6. Becks says:

Shame about the ripping back, but a scarf/shawl will be just as lovely πŸ™‚ No reading happening here either this week….

  7. Kate says:

I know just what you mean. Some weeks I think I cast on just so that I’ll have something to show for Yarn Along then abandon it until the next week. I’m sorry about the sweater, I hope the cowl comes out beautifully (and I’m sure it will.)

  8. swanski says:

I hope you can whip up a cowl for the birthday girl!

  9. Hege says:

It’s great with those books one can browse through over and over. I have some in my shelf that I just browse through now and then, but never actually make something from…
Hope you manage to knit up a cowl to the birthday girl.

  10. Emily T. says:

I feel the same way you do with the “What have I been doing this week?” I keep wondering that about myself, too!

Such a shame you had to rip out so much, but in the long run we all know you’ll be happy to have it corrected. A cowl, especially if one is expected, sounds like a great gift! πŸ™‚

  11. Tonya says:

Oh I love books like that to browse through and inspire.
    Warm wishes to you!

  12. Erin says:

I’m so sorry about the miscount! If it makes you feel any better I have that same “miscount at least once per pattern” disease. I bet you will find the perfect cowl pattern for the big day.

  13. Tracey says:

I always miss count and have to rip out, I drive myself nuts. I really can count. What a sweet girl to think you were making her a scarf, see it was meant to be.I have all the faith that you can knit a cowl in time.

  14. Rachel says:

Yes, I always make a mistake too… in fact, my latest Christmas stocking managed to get itself an extra stitch TWICE. I have no idea how it happened either! Thank goodness it was not meant to be wearable πŸ˜‰
I would say a trip to ravelry might work for the cowl- maybe something you can double up the yarn on and knit at a bulky weight? πŸ™‚

  15. Heather says:

I always miscount, I need to use easy patterns because my mind is always going in 100 different directions. Or maybe if I just knit after my kids went to bed…that could help πŸ™‚ Which is your favorite Harry Potter? I think mine is number 5…

  16. Svenna says:

It was definitely meant to be a scarf all along. Apparently, that’s the only hand knit my teenage niece will wear. πŸ™‚

  17. Taryn Oakley says:

    good luck with the quick-birthday-scarf!!

  18. Ellen says:

I think I must make a mistake or several with every single pattern and find I rip back, rip out or start over. Frustrating. I have that book! But like you…have done nothing but look at it.

  19. Luisa says:

lol. A cowl would be an easier victory than a sweater.

  20. Lydia says:

You have time for a cowl for sure, and the birthday girl with be oh, so happy! Love that beautiful felt you’ve got coming to you…can’t wait to see what it becomes.

  21. heather says:

i don’t think i do a single project with out having to rip it. lol a crowl will be lovely i am sure. <3

  22. heather says:

    that should be cowl. lol

  23. Kristen says:

Don’t know of any cowl patterns, but I’m sure someone will help you out πŸ™‚ I have many eye-candy books like that….fun to look at without trying a single project in them. Oh well….chalk it up to good inspiration πŸ™‚

  24. Lisa says:

I just made a Bandana Cowl (it is one of the top patterns on ravelry now – from purl soho). It was fast & fun to knit. It is for an adult but I put it on my 2-year-old and it was adorable so I think it would work!

  25. miscounting are par for the course!!! i’ve made cowls for the kids, just co a few stitches less than called for and they love them.

  26. Stacy says:

I hate ripping! But a scarf…doable perhaps! Love the HP series!

  27. meghann says:

Ugh…sorry to hear about the sweater! I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out when it is finally finished – you do such lovely work that I’m sure it will be worth it.

I am making cowls for my kiddies for Christmas & am just using the pattern from The Rhythm of Family, because it’s super-simple and cute. xo

  28. Jennifer says:

Please do not feel alone in any Harry Potter geekiness. You are in very good company πŸ™‚

  29. Abe says:

One of the reasons I don’t knit anything but scarves.Nobody notices anything on scarves.

  30. lori says:

ah at least your in good company rachel. it sounds like we all do the very same thing. i do hope you get that cowl done. and i love that book, i haven’t made anything either yet, but looking at it makes me happy!

  31. Angela says:

I misread patterns all the time, especially the simple ones. Oh well. I really enjoyed the 2 Potter books I have read. I look forward to reading them with my kiddos when they get older. Good luck getting the cowl finished-fingers crossed!
