I’m hosting my first ever giveaway this week! If you missed it be sure to leave a comment here! For those who have commented, I’ve very excited with all the challenges I’ve received – thank you!

We’ve left the balmy weather of last week for the reality of winter. It is cold, cold, cold…but there is no better time to cozy up with knitting and reading.
I’m just a few rounds away from finishing the gaptastic cowl. I’m enjoying this second one more than the first – I can read bedtime stories quite easily to the rhythm of the seed stitch and it moves so quickly with the chunky wool. This one is being sold to a friend of a friend. I am certainly not a quick enough knitter to make a business of it but it feels kind of nice to be knitting on commission.
I’ve also been working away on a darkside cowl. I’ve loved watching the pattern emerge. It requires more counting than I’m sometimes up for (or rather have the attention for) but it is quick and simple to follow.
The biggest excitement in my knitting week was an offer I received from Jen. I appreciated all the wonderful suggestions I received on my request here but seeing all those lovelies side by side put me into a wool induced stupor. Jen came to my rescue with the idea to exchange knits. She is going to knit me a thistle cap (a pattern I will tackle one day…perhaps when I have a little more focus time) and I will knit her either a hurricane or a wurm hat (it’s going to be a surprise). She’s generously (and bravely) given me the choice of colour and I think I’ve picked the perfect wool from my stash. I’ve been holding onto for the perfect knit and I think I’ve found it! How exciting! Fingers crossed I get the fit right…
In reading this week I finished Wildwood. I enjoyed reading it and I must admit I enjoyed finishing it. I think I should really have loved but as I mentioned last week it just didn’t grab me. In comparison though, I started a new book this afternoon which pulled me before the end of the first chapter. In keeping with my great love of kid lit I’m reading The Red Pyramid. This one promises to be devoured rather more quickly than Wildwood.

joining Ginny for yarn along
Sigh. At least you finished wildwood!! I took our copy back to the library. I loved the illustrations, but I couldn’t get into it. Cross my heart, I did try.
I’d love to be able to read and knit at the same time (well, I can garter stitch, but that’s it.)
I don’t know that I could seed stitch without making huge mistakes. Are you a continental knitter, or an english knitter? just curious:)
I’m going to go sign up for your giveaway right now!!
I’m hosting one too, weird! Mine isn’t near as cool though.
How fun! Love the idea of a knit exchange! That color is fantastic, can’t wait to see the result.
That is a fantastic idea that Jen had! I will have to keep that in mind 🙂
Congratulations on finishing Wildwood, I haven’t even started yet. Now I am off to follow your cowl links, they have become my favorite knit this month!
Oooh, your yarn for the darkside cowl looks gorgeous (is it malabrigo? it looks very similar to the yarn I used for my boyfriend’s hat!)
As long as the weather holds out, I’ll be picking up the yarn for your Thistle on Friday and will starting your hat as soon as I can.
I am really looking forward to knitting for you.
Love that Darkside Cowl you’re making. 🙂
I put my Wildwood copy aside too. Maybe I’ll finish it…maybe I’ll return it to the library (especially since it’s overdue and accruing fines!) That new book sounds good – my sons have been looking for something that would catch their attention – wonder if this is it?
I love the zig zag pattern! And the yarn looks incredible. Happy Knitting!
(Ps. I left a comment on your one year post. My one year came and went without me even noticing. You are so kind to be having a giveaway.)
What a great exchange you & Jen arranged! I wish you were picking it up in person because she is only about an hour away from me & then I could meet two of my favourite bloggy friends… *sigh*
Your darkside cowl looks lovely! I did one last year (it was the first thing I knit, when I started up knitting last year, in fact) & I love it. I wear it every day. I hope you love yours as much when you’re finished with it! xo
Yippee on the gaptastic cowl, I’ve had my eye on that pattern for a while. Love the blue yarn you are using.
The patterning is beautiful on that cowl – I will have to look it up! Thanks for sharing…
So glad you are enjoying your Gaptastic. Knitting on commission can be great. I knit the Darkside cowl for my mom, and loved it. I think I need to do one for myself. 🙂
Ooh, that darkside cowl looks great – and the ravelry list goes on and on and on….
how sweet to be swapping knitting skills, I hope you both have fun! The blue yarn is absolutely gorgeous!!
Eamon loved the Red Pyramid. He has graciously loaned it to me to read. How fun to exchange knits. Love it!
I’ve wondered about that Wildwood book. Swapping knits is a great idea!
Thanks for the cowl links…I’m in the market to make one so I’m going to study them! Now I’m off to sign up for your giveaway!
i love the knit exchange idea! i hope you are enjoying your commission knitting as well!
