“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more.
It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal
into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our
past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
~Melody Beattie
In the name of gratitude and truthfulness I’ve decided to post a little piece of reality here once a week. Likely just a single picture. See my original post here.
It’s been a while since I posted one of these – somehow I got out of the habit but I snapped this photo of our counter this week and thought it needed showing. And this is a surprisingly tidy counter for a change. Yep, that’s a wilting pineapple and a tube of glue and fabric with an unidentified stain. Those are kid-made Christmas decorations and, I’ll admit it, a smelly cloth.
I’m thankful, so very thankful, that although this home never stays ahead of the mess, it is full to the brim with the people who make it home.
If you’d like to join in with a reality check of your own, please add a link or note in the comments!

I have a counter top that is a catch all for all things my famiy doesn’t know what to do with, they drive me crazy !:)
I love the History of the World series, how are you liking it?
I just claimed all of my counters this weekend! Until their spring break they are mine!
Your counter looks fairly clean actually. I was going to ask also how you like Story of the World as well?
Our dining table is the catchall here. It can get quite scary!
thanks for this. I get so frustrated by the mess sometimes, but you are so right, the folks in the house are what make it a home…even if it’s a mess (which mine is all the time!).
i was thinking: well this countertop looks pretty tidy! and then i read: ah, this is the tidy version :-))
i think i might join in next week. sounds like a very good idea. we mamas need more posts like these around!
Haha, I was wondering when you were going to post another one of these! My counter is quite a disgrace right now too:(
