Despite my very best intentions, these weeks seem to be passing by in a blur with the needles not seeing as much action as I’d like. I carry my knitting around with me, I take it out, I knit in the late evenings when the little people are settled but I don’t feel like anything is flying off my needles.
I did finish the secret hat for Jen. I’ll share a peek after it’s safely in her hands. Other than that I’ve just been knitting a loop now and then for the ring toy(s) – I decided I couldn’t stop at one so I’m doing a couple. The loops are definitely fun and addictive. I’m knitting them in Paton’s Classic Wool – a great yarn to work with, and such a great felter. Beyond that I’m dreaming up an owlie cowl for my little guy; thinking I could come up with a simple enough pattern in his favourite colour, yellow.
As far as reading goes, I’ve been inspired by A Homemade Life. It’s a memoir cookbook by Molly Wizenberg, the author behind Orangette. She writes so well. I love her stories; they are so personable and heartfelt. And the recipes: they beg testing. The problem is I want to try them all – I can’t decide where to begin.

joining with Ginny for yarn along
I love Molly’s writing too and that is a book I pull from the shelf when I need a little cooking motivation.
With all you do Rachel, I am impressed with the amount of knitting you accomplish. You may not think you knitting is flying off the needles, but I think you do a lot!
Happy Yarn Along!
I cannot wait to see Jen’s hat… And I’ll have to look at that book. It sounds lovely… xo
I’ll have to keep an eye out for that book, it looks very good! Before you know it you will have lots of time to knit, just enjoy being in the moment for now, the knitting will always be there.
same here with the knitting, feels like i’ve been knitting that fisherman pulllover for years. i’ve always wanted to read the homemade life. i’ll put it on my wishlist for the next amazon package, i’ve heard so many good things about it by now!
I forgot about her book. I make the peppermint bark from her blog every year. It is yummy! Some weeks sure don’t feel very productive, do they? Then again you have to think about everything else you have done besides knitting. (Oh, and I plan on buying more coconut today. I didn’t have quite enough after making granola)
I really enjoyed Molly’s writing, too. The slow roasted tomatoes with coriander were fantastic and made my turkey sandwich so much better! I think your knitting flies off the needles, and beautifully to boot!
I just adore the way Molly writes–love her blog, too. I find myself yanking that book off my self alot, too. A few stitches here–a few stitches there….they do add up!
Begin with dessert? that’s never a bad idea. 🙂
i loved that book, it’s filled with such goodness!
Squeee!!! I can’t wait. Things have settled down a bit in my life, so I’m ready to send you your hat. I’ll email you my address and all that.
Sounds like a great read. I’ve been at a friends knitting most of the day so floors can be installed. Can’t wait to see that darned hat!
Can’t wait to see the felted rings and the secret gift. As for the book, I borrowed that from the library but I think my mood didn’t allow me to get into it, so I returned it. Maybe I’ll have to get it out again.
Owlies are so cute. The color of that yarn is so pretty. I can’t wait to see the rings!
I really need to make one of those teethers for Lena! Also, I have that book and love it. I have tested a few of the recipes, but can’t remember which ones off the tops of my head. She is a great writer!
so happy to hear your review of this book. I’ve been tempted off and on but never had the inside scoop. Must go off and get my own copy now!
(loving the color, by the way).
I loved that book!
Oh I just loved that book and when it first came out I bought a copy for my mother and my husbands mother for Christmas. I wish I owned a copy myself. Her stories were fantastic, I especially liked the stories of her father.
Have your read the Knitters Home Companion? It is very similar to this book but with knitting patterns tossed in with the beautiful stories and recipes.
i just think those rings are going to be so cute rachel, i’m glad you are able to find those little moments to knit.
OH OH OH!I read this book a few months back and I absolutely loved it!I love these types of story/recipe style of books.
