My needles have been busily clicking on a couple of surprisingly speedy projects. They have taken most of my attention this last week but I am waiting on buttons and models before revealing.
In the meantime, though, I’ve starting on a project I’ve been planning for a while. I went all love-at-first-sight over ย a skien of Malabrigo Sock in Solis a few months ago. I’d undoubtedly went into the yarn store with the warning, “Remember your stash” over my head, but I heeded not and brought the little gem home. I wound it eagerly but then as it happened Christmas was looming and other projects took precedence.
I originally intended it for a boneyard shawl but after seeing Ginny‘s shawlย I decided I needed to try The Age of Brass and Steam Kerchief. I am excited to see how it comes together, so far I’m enjoying it. The pattern is a good one to pick up to work on while I have distractions (which is most of the time).
I still have to get back to work on Winston Yellow. I’m looking for a few good moments to start on the shell without a certain little boy peeking. He didn’t care much about the body but his siblings have started getting quite excited about the progress so I think I’d better keep it under wraps.
I have a stack of library books as high as my fourth born right now. Amongst the gardening books, kid lit, and cookbooks, my hold on Rebecca Danger’s sweet book finally came in. I knit three of her free patterns last Easter – bunny nuggets, chubby chirps, and monster chunksย but hadn’t yet seen The Big Book of Knitted Monsters. So many cute patterns. I’m excited to let the kids have a look and take orders on monsters!

joining Ginny for yarn along
Hi Rachel! Monsters are a good idea! I was actually inspired by your Ocean Rae to knit one for myself as well. I like the idea of finishing it off in a different colour! off now to check that Age of Brass and Steam Kerchief, sounds intriguing! have a lovely day!
Beautiful yarn ๐ I do not know if I could control myself in a yarn store. The shawl pattern is perfect for that yarn!!!
Isn’t Malabrigo amazing! I call it yarn crack. It will make a gorgeous shawl.
I am knitting with Malabrigo right now too. So luxurious! I knitted the Harold monster out of that book for Finn for Valentines. So cute, but figuring out the toes was sort of a nightmare…. but I was happy with it in the end. Happy Monster knitting!
love the yarn! i think it’ll look awesome as that shawl.
Sometimes yarn slips just happen. At least the new yarn isn’t buried in the stash – it is being loved and used. I just packed upt he monster book. I kinda wish I left it out. I think my kiddos need a few monsters right about now.
oh, who could resist that yarn? I’m sure it will look just lovely.
and what a fun project, little monsters.
knitted monsters how fun!
I have that book, i havent finished a monster yet though! It’s full of fun designs though:)
That yarn is gorgeous! Enjoy your stack of books ๐
That yarn is delicious, it would have come home with me too ๐
I love the monster book, I have had a copy for ages but only recently started knitting a monster from it!
Oh, such pretty yarn and I wouldn’t have left it in the store either!
xx
I love the blues and greens of that yarn – I’m a sucker for blue and green. Trees and sky. ๐
I knit bunny nuggets and started a monster from the big book of monsters but never realized that they were designed by the same person! Your yarn is beautiful!!!
gosh that yarn is gorgeous. It really didn’t need to live in the yarn shop. It’s much happier with you!
Oh, look at those monsters! I remember you knit the free ones last year – you inspired me to print off the patterns for myself, but that’s as far as I got. (Sadly, I don’t think I’ll get to them this year, either. Maybe next yearโฆ)
That yarn is beautiful. I wouldn’t have been able to resist it, either. xo
I am surprised you came out with only 1 ball of wool! Malabrigo is so yummy! The colors are amazing– I can’t wait to see the finished FO.
I’m diligently fighting to keep knitting from my stash rather than buy yarn.
A tall stack of library books is such a wonderful treat!
Love that malabrigo sock yarn. You know I can never remember my stash either. ๐
xo
Can’t wait to see the shawl, Rachel. It looks to me like a fairly straightforword, can-work-on-at-Knit-Night kind of pattern.
The Monster Book looked really cute when I flipped through a friend’s copy.
This is going to be beautiful in this color!
haha, love stacks of books that high! and i love that beautiful blue too, what a lovely shawl it will make.
