As usual I’ve set myself a tall order (and looming deadline) for an upcoming birthday. Our little guy turns three later this week (*sigh*gasp*sob*) but I am not ready with gifts, and certainly not for another child the leave the wonders of toddlerhood. But sentimental gushing aside, I am knitting away wondering if there may be a chance to finish something, anything in time.
The striped raglan I started last week for him (like I knit for him last year) has been coming along quite nicely and rather quickly. I’m reminded that it’s not the body of these things that slow me down but the sleeves. So while I still have a little ways to go on the body, I may start onto the sleeves first. I’m hoping that way I can fly through the rest of the body without the looming sleeve disease mocking me from those darn scrap yarn stitch holders.
As for the other unfinished gift…remember this guy? He’s still in the same state he was then. I think I’m admitting defeat to him for the time being.
I haven’t picked up many books for myself this week but bedtime always offers plenty of opportunities to snuggle up with a book. Tonight Sarah and Simon chose Home for a Bunny for their story and I smiled. How perfect for this time. The bunny is searching for a home, a home of his own. It’s not with the robins, the frog, or the groundhog. Then he meets a bunny who invites him in.
And that was his home.
How I love the courage that comes my way – from a wise daughter; from a children’s book; from dear, kind friends (in person and in this space) who share our joy and excitement. Thank you.

i think you need to give yourself a little break. Selling and buying a house with all the kids is a very very busy life. I will keep my fingers crossed that you can knit in your every still moment 🙂
I agree with Karen. You are a very busy lady right now. Toddlerhood is so precious, but I think your guy at 3 will be amazing as well. Hoping you finish in time. Oh, and I love the illustrations and remember them fondly from the bunny book.
Happy Birthday to the little guy!
I’ve got a little boy turning 3 next week!…umm… I haven’t even thought about his present yet. And given his extreme variations in mood, he might just have to wait a while before I’m even free to think about it. Right now he just bit his older brother and is playing innocent. Oh my!
Hope you find some quiet time!
Awww! Happy Birthday to your little guy.
Three is such a fun age.
Best of luck on the sweater, Rachel.
Love Mira’s chubby cheeks in your post yesterday, too.
Happy birthday to your big little guy!
Enjoy it 🙂 I have a hard time just stepping back to enjoy sometimes, it’s so easy to get caught up in all the stuff (and sometimes it just feels plain lazy!) But I think it’s a laziness I’ll be grateful for 🙂
I love A Home For Bunny too 🙂 Such beautiful illustrations and such a beautiful story.
The colors of that sweater are so sweet for a little boy!
My little guy turns 3 next month and I can hardly stand it either! It went WAY too fast!! 🙂
Hope you will finish in time, but if you don’t, he won’t mind! 3? Wow! The time does go by so quickly.
Three is such a great age, but it does signify the entrance into being a little boy instead of toddler. It broke my heart.
Don’t be too hard on yourself. You have a lot going on and sometimes we can’t get to all we want to.
I am sure you will finish in time!
Love those stripes! Happy birthday to your little one! Oh How I love 3…such a fun age!
I’m sure you’ll finish it in time. And 3 is such a fun age 🙂
You can do it!

It looks great! I still love the colors you chose!
