We’re home. We’re unpacked. We’re settling in. And as much as I love coming home (after loving being away), there is a time of adjustment coming back.
We have plenty of things to be getting done. Projects to start. Projects to finish. Lots of fruit in boxes. And, not least of all, a school year to begin. But instead I am living in a post-vacation, post-summer break twilight zone.
So I’m getting things done at a slower speed. Taking it easy for a few days on the school start. Drinking hot tea in the morning and basking in welcome heat in the afternoon. The kids are raking leaves in shorts and tees. I’m finding my entrance into fall and the rhythms I love so much.
And as I’m taking my time, I’m smiling over memories of our last beach visit of the year. Embracing the new season with that bittersweet melancholy of time’s passage.
These photos were taken at Parksville Beach. The kids’ favourite because it also has a playground and spray park. They never take my reasoning that we can do playgrounds and spray parks at home, but we can’t do ocean, sigh. (Note the poor teether’s grimace…I think she’s getting a mouthful all at once. Also, the boy in the one-piece suit – it kills me, so cute.)

How do you find yourself embracing these changing days?
I know exactly what you mean. It is nice to know that someone else is in that place, too.
love the water photos! Was it cold? Poor baby teething away….not fun. Glad you are easing back into your routine.
Hee hee, did you catch that idea from Liam’s face? It was chilly – but the ocean is always chilly there. The rest of us found it warmer than our last visit (in October!).
I wish I could join you and the kid’s, that looks like so much fun.
I wasn’t ready for the unscheduled days I have in summer to end, but everyone else around here was and I was outvoted!
I have also been going much more slowly – enjoying more and expecting less since our return home from a few days away – I think it is a combination of returning home and autumn’s arrival.
Great beach photos Rachel. Smart mama taking it slow. I think I’ve mentioned before we call this time “re-entry”, it’s never easy, but it looks like you are breezing through wonderfully.
Re-entry…that’s it exactly. 🙂
I envy your “late start.” Everything is in full swing and I can’t seem to keep up…one thing after another.
You need a cup of tea and a knitting date. 😉
haha, he does look cold! It’s far too chilly here now for splash parks (I think they’ve shut them all off now anyway.)
It’s funny, we haven’t even traveled recently and yet I feel like we’re in some form of transition. I think we just have too much going on!
Sweet. SO nice to drop in and see what you’ve been up to, sweet mama.
