It’s that time of year when I begin plotting and planning for Christmas gifts, finding the need to be a little more secretive. My needles have been clicking away but I’ve neglected writing about it.
None the less I find myself recently besieged with a list of winter must haves from the kiddos ranging from necessary to indulgent (but far too sweet to ignore).
So of course I’ve gotten all wild with the possibilities as I search through stash and ravelry patterns. Whenever I slip down to the basement in search of a particular wool I find myself sneaking back up stacked with armfuls of other lovelies (because, of course, the one I was looking for was upstairs already).
But before I get too carried away I must come to the completion of this sweet hat. I ran out of the gorgeous malabrigo I was knitting it in (leftover from this recent knit), but my sweet mother-in-law came to the rescue and mailed me another skein from her local shop.
I’ve also guiltily unearthed a sweater I meant to finish in April. Well now it’s cold again and the little boy is quickly outgrowing his favourite sweater. The worst part is that the sweater is done – all but the collar which needs to be torn out and knit again with a looser bind-off.
Once I get those out of the way I’m looking at this pattern for the extremely picky nine-year-old. It’s met her approval – hopefully I’ll get it done before she changes her mind. I imagine everyone else will be lining up for an earflap hat soon after – should keep me busy for a while.
For now my evening has a little more steam left in it. I’m curling up with a stack of library books, and those familiar knitting needles in front of the fire. Thinking perhaps to get to bed a little earlier tonight to fight the sore throat that’s threatening.
How are you keeping needles or hooks warmed up? Have you got a great book on the nightstand? You know how easily I’m distracted…come share!
:: joining Ginny for yarn along::
Love the purple/pink knitting you have there.
Right now I am enjoying Temeraire series by Naomi Novik 🙂
Hope your throat is feeling better!
Sounds like your reading & knitting are going to keep you busy for a while! I love that stripey sweater… xo
I hope you get the must do knitting done quickly so you can get to starting more projects!! Starting is always fun:)
I am also trying to wrap up unfinished projects. It is one of my favorite things to have a fresh stack of library books too:) Stay well.
my goodness you have so many irons in the fire! so many great projects. and your night stand is full to bursting. lol
I am so glad to see you are feeling better Rachel and motivated to accomplish so much!
I love that purple yarn! I hope your throat feels better too!
Sounds familiar! Happy knitting!
i have the plain vest on my list too, but i think i’ll wait till my baby girl can stand, as i imagine it will look sweetest then… the Thorpe hat is something i might make for myself… 😉
we’ve been fighting the sniffles here and every evening i tell myself to get to bed earlier… doesn’t really happen. have a lovely evening and i hope that sore throat is better in the morning!
Don’t feel guilty about the unfinished projects. It’s meant to be restful! So nice meeting you.
I am so impressed that you knit your children sweaters and you finish them in time for your children to wear them, so don’t fret over your unfinished projects. I have so many UFO’s, it’s not funny. Hope your throat is better soon!
I’m also planning for Christmas knitting… isn’t it amazing how much time one can spend on ravelry and yarn shop websites.. I’ve changed my mind so many times already, I don’t know if I’ll ever get to ordering yarn, let alone cast on for something..
So good to say hello again. Sorry for being absent. I adore that yarn and hat pattern. What a cutie you will have on your hands. At least your in progress sweater is so close to completion. You can do it! I love the thorpe pattern. I have made a couple which were very well received. One even had a bit of color work.
I have some malabrigo on the needles as well… and also, way too many things to knit than I have time for!
[…] two projects I decided to finish last week made it off needles and on wearers. Blocking…well, not yet, but they were busy being […]
