Joining Ginny for another week’s yarn along.
First I must thank you all so much for wonderful feedback on last week’s hat dilemma! I decided to go with the light-coloured (yellowish) wooden buttons – although the dark brown and red buttons were close contenders. I was so glad I got the hat done when I did because it went from unseasonably warm to frigid overnight and it was needed.
Trying to catch the last of the light. And yes, as Dan lovingly pointed out, the buttons are crooked – I’ll have to fix that.
I’ve been dutifully finishing up my UFOs (unfinished objects) and almost have the two last mittens done. (Okay, so admittedly the mitten pictured looks a lot like the mitten pictured last week but last week’s was #2 of 4 and this is #4 of 4.) I also have the second of these fingerless mittens to whip up and…hooray…two of my three work in progress bags will be empty and ready for new projects!
What to start next is proving more of challenge than I thought it would. Each week I see your Tiny Tea Leaves, Milos and Fisherman Pullovers – I was planning this one for my little guy but it is all too beautiful (and yes, I love Jane Richmond‘s designs). I’m almost afraid to see what everyone has on needles this week in case I change my mind again!  (Sorry for all of you not on Ravelry if you can’t view some of those – I’m trying to use other links if I know of them.)
As for reading, I started and finished Reckless in about a day. It started out darker than I expected but I did enjoy the story very much. So far, I’ve enjoyed all of the Cornelia Funke books that I’ve read – perhaps this one the most. Now I have just started thumbing through Elizabeth Zimmerman‘s Knitting Without Tears. I’ve heard no end to her praises and thought it was time I checked her out – and then of course I read this post today and had to laugh at the timing, I may be having EZ dreams myself. If I get into some fiction, I’m going to start the first of the Sister’s Grimm series, The Fairy Tale Detectives – once again I admit I love, love, love juvenile fiction.
Looking forward once again to seeing what everyone else is up to! So inspiring to see all the projects on the go.
My plea for this week:
Have any of you knit any of the above sweaters? Can you offer any advice for a novice sweater knitter like me?
cute hat!
I think I might have to put that Fisherman’s Sweater on my list too. What a sweet little boy knit.
Hello, so nice to find your blog. I love the hat, the grey color and the buttons too. I need wood buttons like that for my last project. As for changing a blanket, I’m flexible on finished size. I have yet to tackle a sweater. Looking forward to seeing your progress and tips, as I could use them. 🙂
Haha, I feel better that I’m not the only one that has a terrible time deciding what to make next! It’s been 2 weeks since I finished my gloves and I think I’ve finally picked a cute little sweater for my daughter to knit next. Now I just have to decide on wool *grin*. Love love your hat. That is so cute!
The hat looks great! I think the crooked buttons give it character 🙂 I have never done a sweater…seems like a big intimidating project, but I hope to one day.
LOVE the buttons you picked!! My favorite sweater pattern is the one that you had planned by Jane Richmond, and I LOVE all your book recommendations!! I always seem to like your book recommendations!! I added the EZ book to my list and, I too like teen books and will look at the Sister’s Grimm! Let me know if you start reading it soon. My list is getting longer by the minute unfortunately. I can’t keep up!!
Love the hat and buttons!
I have Knitting Without Tears and really want to read The Opinionated Knitter sometime soon…
The hat came out great! Good for you finishing up all your UFOs, I had a big post about just that last week and what do you know, I started Tiny tea Leaves for a friend, made a headband, a shirt for Molly and I’ve spent the morning planning something for this new Malabrigo I got (the colorway is amazing)! That Milo vest is too sweet. Have you discovered petitepurls.com? I’m in love with this vest http://petitepurls.com/Summer09/summer2009_pembroke.html I made if for my nephew and was thrilled with the results.
Enjoy your day!
Hahah I like that, UFOs. I’m looking forward to having your help with knitting in a couple of weeks!
Adorable hat! Love it on you. I’ve knitted the Milo twice, the Tea Leaves adult sized, and several EZ wears. The fisherman’s pullover is on my to do list too. My advice would be to read all the comments or at least the helpful hints on Ravelry. I often can “see” what is ahead when I read all of them before I begin. A nice heads up on a potential road block is easier to overcome if I can have a game plan in mind.
Even as a new knitter I have some UFO’s myself. Sometimes I loose excitement to finish.

Your self discipline is great! I tried to finish up UFO’s a while back and it was such a great decision. I love the hat… brilliant colour!
What a beautiful hat. I love the slate grey coupled with the wooden buttons.
Very cute hat! Wish I could pull off that look.
I’ve made a couple Milos and they are quite easy and very satisfying. It’s so fun to see your children in your own creation. Go for it!
that hat is beautiful! I love it! awesome! 🙂
Yay for finishing UFOs! The hat looks lovely, crooked buttons and all!
Your hat is lovely. You will thoroughly enjoy Elizabeth Zimmermann 😀
I have been working on finishing up UFOs, too. It feels great to get them completed, doesn’t it?!
P.S. I like the buttons you chose for your hat. They look great! (Even if they are a bit crooked!=)
Love the hat with the buttons, just as they are!
Nice to meet you Rachel! Thanks for visiting. Your hat is beautiful, as is your blog in general. I wish I could give you some sweater hints, but I’m a newbie knitter. ; )
Your buttons look ravishing!!! I love the choice. And keep the crooked-it adds character! Once waiting for the subway, a woman commented on my knitting. I pointed out all of the flaws to her and she told me that those are what make it so special. The words seem to ordinary, but I tell you, they have stuck with me…
Your hat looks terrific. What a great feeling to be able to clean up your UFO’s. Now onto some great new projects!
Love the hat! Oh and what to knit next, it’s always a wonderfully hard question for me. Happy deciding.
Blessings, Elizabeth
Cute hat!
I had the same dilemma when I should choose a pattern for a new jacket/sweater for Eirin, so I made her choose herself 😉 She even picked out the colours, so she really can’t say that she don’t like her jacket when it’s done!
We’ve both got purple glasses…. 😉
I just emailed you a link I came across this morning that might be helpful.
